description

The nature reserve is located southeast of Wolfenbüttel in the south of the Asse ridge . It protects part of the south-facing slope of the Remlinger Herse, the highest elevation of the Asse. The nature reserve is predominantly shaped by forest communities. For example, beech forests in the form of woodruff-beech forest and orchid-lime-beech forest as well as oak-hornbeam forests in the form of bedstraw-oak-hornbeam forest grow here. The forests have a high proportion of old and dead wood . The beech forests are dominated by the common beech . Additionally, we are depending on the severity species of maple, English oak , serviceberry and summer Linde . In the herbaceous layer of woodruff beech forests settle among other wood anemone , daffodils , forest violets , woodruff , wild garlic , spring pea and Carex sylvatica . In the Orchid limestone beech forests settle among other arable Bellflower , Turk's cap , White Waldvöglein , Blue Red Gromwell and Fingersegge . The oak-hornbeam forests are dominated by English oak and hornbeam . There are also common beech, maple species and summer linden. Here the herb layer is formed by, among other things, Turkish lily, liverwort , forest rennet , blue-red stone seed , rye leaf and black pea . In the transition to the fields adjoining the forests, well-defined forest edges are formed. Lean- lime lawns can be found in small areas , partly with blackthorn and hawthorn trees . Stocks of orchids , including bee garlic, settle here . Furthermore, Reddish cinquefoil , Ovalblättriges Rockrose , meadow sage , Geneva Günsel , Bupleurum falcatum and helictotrichon pratense find.

The nature reserve is a habitat for the gray , black and middle woodpecker , stock dove and the bat species pug bat , great mouse- eared bat , small bearded bat , great and small noctule bat . It is also habitat for the stag beetle . The wildcat is also native here. The poor grasslands accommodate different butterflies , including Small Heath , Sooty Copper , Hauhechelbläuling and grizzled skipper .

A forest path runs through the nature reserve , which can be used. The nature reserve is largely surrounded by other forest communities. Agricultural areas are connected to the south .
