Richie Kotzen (born February 3, 1970 in Reading , Pennsylvania ) is an American guitarist and singer .

biography

Richie Kotzen learned to play the guitar at the age of seven. Since 1989 he has published solo albums regularly (already more than 20) and played intermittently with the rock bands Poison (1991–1993) and Mr. Big (1999–2002). He not only plays rock , but also blues , rhythm and blues , funk , fusion and jazz , which he combines with his soul-heavy voice.

In 1993 he was a guest musician on the Stevie Salas album The Electric Pow Wow and in 1996/97 on two albums by the funk-rock bassist T. M. Stevens (Sticky Wicked and Radioactive) and released two jazz-blues-rock fusion Albums with Greg Howe (1995/97). In 1999 he recorded a jazz-prog-rock fusion album with Stanley Clarke and Lenny White under the name Vertú . In 2006 he can also be heard as a guest singer and songwriter on the album Rough Beat ( reissued under the title Resurrection in 2010 ) by blues-funk-rock guitarist Steve Saluto .

In 2009 the album The Road was created in collaboration with the pop-rock producer Richie Zito under the project name Wilson Hawk , on which they celebrate and revive the blue-eyed soul pop of the 1960s and 1970s, with 50% of the titles are gentle, soulful ballads.

Since 2012 Kotzen has played in the rock trio The Winery Dogs together with drummer Mike Portnoy (ex- Dream-Theater ) and bassist Billy Sheehan from Mr. Big , with whom he released an album for the first time in 2013 and went on a world tour during the year was (in September also for some shows in Germany). Their second album "Hot Streak" was released on October 2nd, 2015, just nine months after Kotzen's solo album "Cannibals". In 2015/16 he went on a world tour with the Winery Dogs again.

In April 2017, Kotzen released his 21st studio album entitled Salting Earth .

After he only released two ( The Damned / Riot ) in 2018 and one video single ( Venom ) in 2019 to hold back all other newly written songs for his 50th birthday triple album 50 For 50 , on which 50 new tracks are added heard, it was published on February 3rd (Kotzen's birthday). The 50 songs are divided into 3 CDs.

A video was made for the title Devil's Hand in which he can be seen with his wife, bassist Julia Lage.
