Rolland H. Spaulding
Rolland Harty Spaulding (born March 15, 1873 in Townsend , Middlesex County , Massachusetts , † March 14, 1942 in Rochester , New Hampshire ) was an American politician and governor of the state of New Hampshire from 1915 to 1917 .
Early years and political advancement
Rolland Spaulding attended the Phillips Academy until 1893 . He then worked in his family's company that manufactured fiberboard. From 1905 he began to be interested in politics. It was then that he joined the progressive movement within the Republican Party . In 1912 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention , and two years later he was elected as his party's candidate for governor of his state.
New Hampshire Governor
Rolland Spaulding took up his new office on January 1, 1915. During his two-year term in office, the financial subsidies to the municipalities were increased and the road administration was reformed. At that time, a long-term plan was drawn up to expand the state's highways in order to cope with the expected increase in traffic. The administrative process has also been modified to improve the efficiency of the authorities. The governor also advocated lowering taxes. Spaulding turned down a candidacy for a further term and left on January 2, 1917 from office.

During World War I Spaulding was chairman of the New Hampshire Defense League. Otherwise he devoted himself to his business interests. Rolland Spaulding died in March 1942. He had two children with his wife Vera Gowan. His brother Huntley was also governor of New Hampshire from 1927 to 1929.
