Roman Hovenbitzer

Roman Hovenbitzer (born 1972 in Düsseldorf ) is a German opera director.

Life

Hovenbitzer completed a degree in musical theater directing at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater with Götz Friedrich .

He was assistant to the directors Willy Decker , Götz Friedrich, Kurt Horres , Harry Kupfer , Michael Leinert , Karoline Gruber , Uwe Schwarz , Pet Halmen , Thomas Schulte-Michels , Ernst A. Klusen and Didier von Orlowsky .

From 1996 to 1999 he worked as an assistant director and director at the Staatstheater Kassel . He has been working as a freelancer since 1999, for example at the Kassel State Theater, the Aaltotheater Essen, the Braunschweig State Theater, the Prague State Opera, the Vanemuine Tartu Theater, Estonia and the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Finland as well as in Hong Kong and Brazil.

For the 2018/19 season he will be staging in Hamburg, Krefeld, Schwerin, at the State Theater in Augsburg and in Meiningen.
