Route description

The 132.6 km long interurban road leads from Lavaltrie on the northwestern bank of the Saint Lawrence River 50 km northeast of Montréal in the MRC D'Autray as a junction of Route 138 initially in a northwest direction to Autoroute 40 . From Autoroute 40 to Joliette in the MRC Joliette of the same name, Route 131 has four lanes and is congruent with Autoroute 31 ( Autoroute Antonio-Barrette ). It then leads north through the neighboring town of Notre-Dame-des-Prairies into the MRC Matawinie . There the trunk road passes the places Saint-Félix-de-Valois , Saint-Jean-de-Mahta , Sainte-Émélie-de-l'Énergie and Saint-Zénon and finally reaches Saint-Michel-des-Saints . It ends almost 13 km further east in the hamlet of Saint-Ignace-du-Lac on the south bank of the Réservoir Taureau .
