Eduard Wilhelm Rudolf Broecker , von Broecker since 1868 (born May 28, 1817 in Kulm , Prussia , † May 16, 1890 in Charlottenburg , German Empire ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Rudolf was a son of Karl Broecker (1787-1849) and his wife Karoline, née Lorenz (1790-1822). His father was first district secretary in Kulm and later on Browiennna in the district of Kulmsee.

Career

Broecker attended grammar school in Bromberg and then joined the 5th Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army on April 29, 1833 as a gunner . For further training he graduated from the United Artillery and Engineering School from October 1836 to July 1839 and has since advanced to become an aggregated second lieutenant . On January 7, 1840 he was appointed artillery officer and on June 30, 1840 he was recruited. From April 1841 to July 1842 Broecker worked as a teacher at the division school of the 10th Division and in 1844 he was assigned to the main artillery workshop in Neisse as an accounting officer and administrative member. This was followed by commandments as an educator at the cadet house in Kulm and as a military teacher at the Berlin cadet house . On August 3, 1850, he was promoted to Prime Minister.

From 1851 to 1853 Broecker was a member of the artillery revision commission in Neisse and at the same time worked as an examiner at the division school of the 12th division . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was assigned to the fireworks department on March 20, 1852, and in mid-March 1854, when he was promoted to captain, he was appointed director of the rocket laboratory. Under position à la suite of the 6th Artillery Regiment , he was appointed company commander in the fireworks department on May 20, 1854 . He rose to major on March 17, 1863 and became a regular member of the Artillery Examination Commission on April 18, 1865. On September 23, 1865 he joined the 6th Artillery Brigade as a department commander. So he accompanied the shooting attempts at Krupp in Essen in 1866 .

During the German War Broecker took part in the Battle of Königgrätz in 1866 and was awarded the Crown Order III for his work . Excellent with swords. After the end of the war he returned to his position with the Artillery Examination Commission and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on December 31, 1866 with a patent from October 30, 1866 . On August 2, 1867 his appointment was made director of the artillery shooting school and in this capacity Broecker was on June 29, 1868 King William I in the hereditary Prussian nobility raised .

On July 18, 1869 he was promoted to colonel and on September 5, 1869 appointed commander of the 1st Rhenish Field Artillery Regiment No. 8 . Broecker led this association in 1870/71 in the war against France in the battles at Gravelotte , Amiens , at the Hallue , at Bapaume and Saint-Quentin as well as the siege of Metz and the battle at Buchy. Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , he was appointed commander of the 2nd Artillery Brigade on October 8, 1872, after the peace treaty was held à la suite in his regiment. With the separation of field and foot artillery, the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade was formed at the end of the month , and Broecker continued to act as its commander. He was promoted to major general on September 2, 1873 and received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves , in January 1877 on the occasion of the festival of the order . He died on May 16, 1890 in Charlottenburg and was buried three days later in Berlin's Luisenfriedhof .

Broecker married Julie Schweitzer (1826–1909), a daughter of the banker Moritz Schweizer, on November 25, 1845 in Neisse. The couple had several children:
