Rūta Paškauskienė (born March 29, 1977 in Kaunas , Lithuanian SSR , USSR as Rūta Garkauskaitė ) is a Lithuanian table tennis player . She is multiple European champion and took part in the Olympic Games three times.

successes

Paškauskienė's parents were table tennis coaches. At the national championships of Lithuania she won the title twelve times in singles, for the first time as a 14-year-old, and 17 times in doubles and mixed. In 1993 she was nominated for the European Youth Championship. Since 1993 she has participated in thirteen world championships . In doing so, she never came close to medal ranks. In 2010 she was fifth at the European ranking tournament TOP12 .

She was most successful at the European Championships , where she has won a total of six titles, namely in 2008 in singles, 2010 in doubles with Oksana Fadejewa (Russia) and in 2000 , 2005 , 2007 and 2009 in mixed with Aleksandar Karakašević (Serbia). She reached the semi-finals in 1994 , 1996 , 2002 and 2009 in doubles and in 2009 and 2010 in singles. In 2002 she lost the mixed final against Lucjan Błaszczyk / Ni Xialian (Poland / Luxembourg).

Paškauskienė represented her country three times at the Olympic Games, namely in 1996 , 2000 and 2008 . In 2000 she made it into the round of the last 16 in the double competition.

Activities in Germany

In 1997 Paškauskienė moved from the Lithuanian club Kaunas to Germany, initially to TTC Assenheim in the Bundesliga and a year later to 3B Berlin , where she stayed until 2004. Then she went to France because of a liaison with Damien Éloi .

Private

Rūta Paškauskienė is a niece of the former Soviet national player Asta Giedraitytė-Stankienė. At the University of Kaunas, she studied sport for teaching and graduated as the best of her year with a diploma. In 1998 she married Gedes Buda and was then called Rūta Būdienė. Later she went under the name Rūta Paškauskienė.
