The Södra Latins Gymnasium , Södra Latin for short , is a municipal high school in Stockholm in the Södermalm district . A Latin school of the same name has been in existence since the 17th century. Södra Latin is Sweden's oldest and most selective and elite grammar school in terms of student admission.
The school is known for its wide range and rich cultural life. The theater courses at the school were among others with Julia Högberg and Johanna Sällström the basis for their later acting careers .
building
Before the Latin school, there was a school in a Marienkirche on the spot. The current school building was designed by Per Emanuelsson Werming and inaugurated in 1891. The building was designed so that all rooms and hallways receive direct sunlight. There were originally 21 classrooms in total. The school building was renovated in 1996. The auditorium is equipped with an organ from Akerman & Lund from 1892, one of the first Swedish organs built in the late Romantic era.
Alumni
Alumni include Nobel Prize winners , administrators, politicians, high-ranking clergy, senior members of the Swedish academies and high-ranking artists. The former boys' school has been accepting girls since 1961. Södra Latins in the media
The Swedish films G - som i gemenskap and Hets were partly shot at Södra Latin, similar to the Swedish TV series Raggadish. Some biographical books about school life are by Peter Pohl . The music video for the Robyn song Do You Really Want Me (Show Respect) was partially filmed in the auditorium.
Introduction of gender-neutral changing rooms in 2013
The planned introduction of gender-neutral changing rooms on the basis of an LGBT school initiative in 2013 had an international press response . Even before that, the not undisputed particle "hen" (instead of hon (she) and han (er)) was systematically used in Sweden , also at the initiative of schoolchildren. The Swedish blogger Isabella Löwengrip alias Blondinbella, who spoke of a gender epidemic , was critical .
