Südstadt is a district of the Halle district in the Süd district of the city of Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt , Germany .
location
The district, which covers an area of 2.35 km², extends from the southern side of the Vogelweide street in the east and from the western part of Diesterwegstraße to the railway systems in the south.
It exactly covers the urban area between the streets Böllberger Weg, Mailänder Höhe, Südstadtring, Veszpremer Straße, Jamboler Straße, Im Langen Feld, Elsa-Brändström-Straße, Vogelweide, Paul-Suhr-Straße, Korbethaer Weg, Radeweller Weg, Straße der Befreiung and Diesterwegstrasse.
Infrastructure
The district is divided into three areas, based on the different times of its development. Südstadt 1 with the areas around Vogelweide (southern side of the street), Elsa-Brändström-Straße (southern part, western side of the street) and Paul-Suhr-Strasse between Vogelweide and Murmansker Strasse was four-story in the late 1950s and 1960s Residential buildings built in brick and large blocks with gable roofs. The nine-story Vogelweide 76 building, built in 1963, is considered to be the first high-rise in Halle.
The Fliederweg barracks, which is also part of Südstadt 1, was built in 1938 as the “Air Force Fireworks School” and is now renovated. It has been the seat of the Halle police station since 2008 and is also used by state authorities. The row houses in the nearby Fliederweg also date from the 1930s.
Südstadt 2 was built at the beginning of the 1970s with the development of the area south of Diesterwegstrasse to Wiener Strasse, now with five to eleven-storey apartment buildings in prefabricated construction. This was followed by the second construction phase from Südstadtring via Platz der Völkerfreundschaft and along the south promenade to Paul-Suhr-Straße. The third construction phase was built between Paul-Suhr-Straße and Elsa-Brändström-Straße south of Murmansker Straße to the S-Bahn line, Silberhöhe stop .
In the area of Murmansker Straße there are several schools in a complex arrangement, including a school complex of the Catholic Edith Stein School Foundation for primary and secondary levels, the Elisabeth Gymnasium and the state education centers for the physically handicapped and for the hearing impaired. Overall, the district with over 15,000 inhabitants has two high schools, two secondary schools , two elementary schools, four special schools and one comprehensive school .
At the intersection of Paul-Suhr-Straße / Südstadtring is the Kaufland-Center with numerous shops, service facilities and a branch of the city library .
The Südstadtpark south of the Radeweller Weg is the continuation of the Pestalozzipark to the north .
The Südstadt has been a development area within the framework of the Urban Redevelopment East program since 2002.
