The Cup of the Salzburg Football Association , briefly SFV Cup called, is one of nine Austrian football - cup competitions for amateur teams of men at association level, of the Salzburger Fußballverband aligned and the knockout system is discharged.

With the separation of the "Salzburg Football Association" (SFV) from the previously common football association for Upper Austria and Salzburg and the recognition by the ÖFB as a separate regional association despite strong resistance from the previous partner in 1921, football in the state of Salzburg experienced its first major boom. After the introduction of its own championship in the same year, the Salzburg State Cup was held for the first time only five years later (1926) and was the second highlight alongside the championship.

The decisive factor for the introduction of the competition was the donation of a magnificent trophy by the then Salzburg governor, Dr. Franz Rehrl to the Salzburger AK 1914 with the requirement to play it as the "Governor's Cup" annually as a challenge prize among the first-class clubs in the state.

After the first cup competition for the 2nd class organized by the Salzburg Football Association, which started as a test run in autumn 1925 and won the Maxglaner Sportklub "Vorwärts" , the SFV announced the first Salzburg State Cup for the following year 1926. This stretched from the qualifying games in March to the final game in September and found its first winner in the 1st Salzburg SK 1919 .

The second organization of the Dr. Rehrl Cup in 1927 was less successful. After both semifinals - at SAK 1914 against the amateur sports club, several amateur players left the field after controversial referee decisions, while the 1. SSK against FC Hertha after the second exclusion of a sports club player the referee was physically attacked by one of these athletes - also had to play the final between SAK 1914 and 1. In the following years, only the team of the Salzburg AK 1914 prevailed and, thanks to these series successes, the club is still the record winner of the Salzburg Football Cup today (2017). In 1935, due to scheduling problems, the organization of the Dr.-Rehrl-Cup was waived before there was a surprise winner in 1936 with the Halleiner AC, which was only founded in 1933. Salzburger Austria secured the last cup win for the time being in 1937 . In 2004, the SFV decided to revive the national cup after a 45-year break. The first winner in the new century was the SV Austria Salzburg amateur team. The following year there was a big sensation with the title win of the fifth division club FC Hallein 04, which was founded in 2004. The successor club of the 1st Halleiner SK and the Halleiner AC thus seamlessly continued the glory days of its two predecessor clubs, which in 2008 was able to repeat its success. In between, the regional league team SV Grödig won the cup. A year later, SV Grödig's second team won the trophy. In the following years there were only victories from regional league clubs: USK Anif, the second team around Red Bull Salzburg, three times from SV Austria Salzburg, which then rose to the first division in 2014 , USC Eugendorf, USK Anif, in 2017 from SV Grödig, in 2018 by SV Straßwalchen and in 2019 by USK Anif.

Game mode, participants and draw

The SFV-Cup is held in a knockout system. All rounds are decided in one game, up to the round of 16 the club that plays in the lowest division has home rights. If both clubs play in the same league, the first-named club has home rights at the time of the draw. Home rights are drawn from the round of 16. In the final, the winner of the first semi-final game drawn is considered the home team, the winner of the second semi-final game drawn as the away team. If there is a draw after 90 minutes, the winner will be determined immediately (without extra time) in a penalty shoot-out.
