Sascha Juritz (born March 25, 1939 in Rietschen , Oberlausitz ; † June 30, 2003 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a draftsman , painter , graphic artist , sculptor , lithographer and publisher .

Life

Sascha Juritz was born in Rietschen , Upper Lusatia, in 1939 . He attended the Sorbian high school in Cottbus . Even then he designed many drawings for Sorbian folk tales. In 1956 he fled with his mother to West Berlin, from there to the West. Now began an unsteady wandering that led Juritz via France and Spain to Africa, always by racing bike. Numerous drawings were made during this time. In 1957 he began studying “Free Graphic” at the Werkkunstschule, now the Offenbach am Main University of Design , from which he graduated cum laude . He then went to Paris and Florence for further studies. There he made drawings and lithographs such as Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt  - In the ballet hall, in the Parisian cemetery Père Lachaise , and the Théâtre Eugène Ionesco , until he accepted a teaching position for “natural drawing studies” in Offenbach am Main in 1962, which he fulfilled until 1967.

In 1967 he married his first wife Hanne and began building a studio in Dreieichenhain . In the late 1960s, Sascha Juritz began working with writers and poets, e. B. with Martin Walser , Peter Rühmkorf and Peter Härtling , Hilde Domin , Stephan Hermlin , Siegfried Lenz , Thaddäus Troll , Urs Widmer u. a. (see works ) whose texts he illustrated with lithographs and etchings. He was also a member of the hermit press . Exhibitions (pictures, drawings, sculptures) followed in London, Amsterdam, Mastricht, Utrecht, Cologne, Hanover and Lucerne.

Many of his art books, which he published in his »pawel pan presse« publishing house, founded in 1972, a publishing house for contemporary literature and original graphics, have been awarded prizes, but so has Sascha Juritz himself. In 1984 he received the International Senefelder Prize for lithography. Sascha Juritz was also active as a sculptor. Henry Moore had invited him to a competition for young sculptors in the marble quarries of Carrara and Forte dei Marmi . Juritz won the gold medal with his work.

In 1975 he returned to the university in Offenbach and took on further teaching positions there. The collaboration with "Eremiten-Presse" was intensified, "Pfaffenweiler Presse" was added, book graphics for books by Heinrich Böll , Bertolt Brecht , Jean Paul and a selection of own texts. This was followed by exhibitions in capitals and cities in Europe and in New York .

He met the goldsmith and metalworker Doris Lün and came to Aschaffenburg . They married and later lived on a riding school near Büdingen and on Le Parcou in Brittany . Sascha Juritz died on June 30, 2003 in Büdingen on his property as a result of an accident. He was buried in the old town cemetery in Aschaffenburg.

His works are in private and public collections, in the Museum van het Boek  - Museum Meermanno-Westreenianum Den Haag, Klingspor-Museum Offenbach, Book Museum London, Gutenberg-Museum Mainz , Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt and in the collections in Leipzig , Krakow , St. Petersburg , in Montreal , Vancouver and Austin (Texas) Gallery 498 in Sulzbach an der Murr.
