State Chess League 1987/88
The 1987/88 season was the 13th season of the Austrian State Chess League . In the previous year, the SK Flötzersteig-Breitensee rose, which reached the league, while the SK St. Pölten had to relegate .
The defending champion SK Merkur Graz was again Austrian champion with three points ahead of SK VÖEST Linz .

Events
The competitions took place on October 10 and 11, 1987, October 31 and November 1, 1987, November 14 and 15, 1987, November 28 and 29, 1987, December 12 and 13, 1987, December 30 and 31 January 1988, February 13 and 14, 1988, February 27 and 28, 1988 and March 12 and 13, 1988. The last double round was organized centrally in Vienna - Oberlaa , the others decentrally with the clubs involved.

Qualifying tournament for the State League A 1988/89
The qualifying tournament for the State League A took place from May 27th to 29th in Schwaz . The participants were the SV Waagner-Biro Graz (winner of the western league), the SK Schwaz (winner of the southern league) as well as with the SK Baden and the SK Währing the two first place winners of the eastern league. The host won the tournament and was promoted to the state league.
