Vincent Schiavelli
Vincent Schiavelli (born November 11, 1948 in Brooklyn , New York , † December 26, 2005 in Polizzi Generosa in Sicily , Italy ) was an American actor with Sicilian roots. He is best known for his roles in the films One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Ghost - Message from Sam .
Life
Schiavelli, who is 1.97 meters tall, studied drama at New York University and began working on the stage in the 1960s. The first film he starred in was Miloš Forman's Taking Off in 1971 . Due to his talent and striking appearance, he secured other roles in Forman films. He first appeared on television in 1972 at The Corner Bar . His role as a subway ghost in the blockbuster Ghost (1990) earned him a lot of critical acclaim. Schiavelli has acted in over 150 films, often impersonating eccentric or terrifying characters in his supporting roles. These "small appearances" almost became a trademark. Schiavelli was seen in an episode of Star Trek as well as in James Bond and Amadeus . In 1997 Vanity Fair magazine voted him one of the best American character actors.
He was also the author of cookbooks and articles in cookery magazines. In 2001 he was awarded the James Beard Foundation's Journalism Prize.
In 1985 Schiavelli married his first wife, the actress Allyce Beasley (* 1954). From this marriage, which was divorced in 1988, son Andrea (* Sept. 1987) was born. On October 23, 1992, he married the musician Carol Sue Mukhalian , a concert harpist with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and composer. Schiavelli had settled in Sicily, in Polizzi Generosa, the hometown of his grandparents. Most recently he also directed the theater there. Schiavelli died of lung cancer . He was Honorary Chairman of the National Marfan Foundation .
