Location and transport links

Pig village from the east

Schweindorf is located northeast of the town center of Neresheim on the Härtsfeld , not far from the eastern border with Bavaria on the district roads K 3303 and K 3314. The B 466 runs north and west .

history

In the museum in the Seelhaus , the municipal museum of Bopfingen , the Bronze Age is represented by ceramics from the barrows of Schweindorf.

Schweindorf was first mentioned in a document in 1297 as "Swaindorf". The place name is derived from the word "swain" ("servant, young boy"), as a personal name from the time of the conquest ("Siedlung des Sweino"), according to the traditional reading of "sweinen" (" clearing ").

The place was initially owned by the Lords of Hürnheim zu Katzenstein and those of Westerstetten and came to Nördlinger citizens and the Heilig-Geist-Spital in 1359 and 1501/07 .

In 1802, Schweindorf fell to Bavaria as part of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . In 1810 the place became part of the Kingdom of Württemberg , where it was assigned to the Oberamt Neresheim . On January 1, 1971, it was incorporated into Neresheim.

Culture and sights

Due to its former affiliation to the imperial city of Nördlingen, Schweindorf is the only evangelical village on the otherwise traditionally Catholic Härtsfeld.

The evangelical church, presumably consecrated to St. Stefan , has a Romanesque choir tower and was first mentioned in 1380. The choir is equipped with a rib cross vault. In 1507 the church came from the Lords of Katzenstein to the Nördlinger Spital.
