Senseless is an American comedy film of Penelope Spheeris from the year 1998 .
action
Darryl Witherspoon is studying economics. Since he needs money, he agrees to take part in a scientific experiment, for which he is to receive $ 3,000. Witherspoon is injected with a drug that enhances the senses. He becomes more successful at the university and can attract the coveted Janice's attention.
Witherspoon entered a competition for the high-value post of junior analyst for a financial company. Before the competition, he takes double the dose of the remedy to sharpen his senses. The result, however, is not an amplification of the senses , but rather a temporary loss of one of his five senses caused by an overstimulation . During a National Basketball Association basketball game he is attending with company executives, he calls out for beer as the national anthem is played. He then mistakenly sat down on the players bench and allowed himself insulting remarks about the player Patrick Ewing , who was sitting right next to him.
Lorraine, a friend of Janice's, tries to seduce Witherspoon. This time Witherspoon's motor skills fail. The angry Janice doesn't believe him later that he didn't cheat on her with her friend.
Witherspoon gets the job but publicly admits that he cheated on the competition by participating in a drug study. He then reconciles with Janice and gets a post in the company's mail room, which Janice's father also started in before he worked his way up within the company. After one year he was promoted to junior analyst.
Reviews
Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on February 20, 1998 that the film was a " Jim Carrey film " fighting to be a Penelope Spheeris film and losing that fight. The director doesn't find a uniform tone.
The lexicon of international films described the film as “non-binding slapstick without any claim”. He failed just as “because of the untalented main actor” as well as “because of the uninspired story”.
background
The film was shot in Los Angeles and grossed approximately $ 13 million in US cinemas .
