Shaolin Sándor Liu (born November 20, 1995 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian short tracker , Olympic champion and the older brother of the short tracker Shaoang Liu .

Career

Sándor made his debut in Salt Lake City in the World Cup in October 2010 and finished 28th in the 500 m. At the European Short Track Championships in 2013 in Malmö , he won bronze with the relay. In February 2013 he won bronze over 1000 m at the Junior World Championships in Warsaw . In the following year he won over 1000 m at the Junior World Championships in Erzurum , the bronze medal in the 1500 m superfinal and in the all- around event , the silver medal with the relay and the gold medal over 500 m. At his first Olympic participation in Sochi in 2014 , he achieved 20th place over 1500 m, 18th place over 500 m and 16th place over 1000 m. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season he achieved his first podium finishes in the World Cup in Montreal with third place over 1000 m and second place with the relay. In the further course of the season a third place over 1000 m and second place over 500 m and with the relay followed. At the 2015 European Championships in Dordrecht , he won silver with the relay. In March 2015, at the Junior World Championships in Osaka , he won the bronze medal in the all- around competition and the silver medal in the 500 m and 1500 m superfinals. In the same month he won the silver medal at the 2015 World Championships in Moscow with the relay over 5000 m and in the individual over 500 m. He finished the season in seventh place in the 1000 m World Cup. After third place with the relay in Montreal and second place over 500 m in Toronto at the beginning of the 2015/16 season, he won his first World Cup victory with the relay in Shanghai . In Nagoya and Dordrecht he came second over 1000 m and at the end of the season he finished seventh in the world cup over 500 m and fourth in the world cup over 1000 m. In January 2016 he won the silver medal in the all-around and with the relay at the European Short Track Championships in Sochi. In individual races she was second in the 1000 m and 1500 m. At the 2016 World Championships in Seoul , he won the bronze medal in the all-around event and the gold medal in the 500 m. In the 2016/17 season he won twice over 500 m and twice with the relay. In addition, he came in second place over 500 m and 1500 m and at the end of the season he reached seventh place in the World Cup over 1500 m and third place in the World Cup over 500 m. At the 2017 European Short Track Championships in Turin , he won the silver medal in the all-around competition. With the season he was fourth there. In March 2017 he won the bronze medal with the relay at the World Championships in Rotterdam .

At the beginning of the 2017/18 World Cup season, Sándor won the 500 m in Budapest . This was followed by second place over 1500 m in Dordrecht and second place over 1000 m in Shanghai . At the last World Cup station of the season in Seoul , he finished second over 500 m and first over 1500 m and finally achieved sixth place in the World Cup over 1500 m, second place in the World Cup over 500 m and first place in the World Cup over 1000 m. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he won the gold medal with the 5000 m relay and the bronze medal with the relay at the 2018 European Championships in Dresden . In March 2018 he won the silver medal in the all- around event and the gold medal in the 3000 m at the World Championships in Montreal . In the 2018/19 season he triumphed in the World Cup three times with the relay and once over 1000 m. He also took second place in Turin over 500 m and third place in Calgary over 500 m and in Dresden with the relay. He finished sixth in the World Cup over 1000 m and fifth in the World Cup over 500 m. At the 2019 European Championships in Dordrecht, he won the silver medal over 500 m and 1000 m and the gold medal over 1500 m, with the relay and in the all-around event. In March 2019 he won the bronze medal with the relay at the World Championships in Sofia . In the all-around competition he came tenth there. In the following season he won three times over 500 m and twice with the relay. In addition, he won second place over 500 m twice and once over 1000 m and with the relay, thus winning the World Cup over 500 m. At the 2020 European Championships in Debrecen , he won the silver medal in the all-around competition and the gold medal over 500 m and 1000 m.
