Silvia Farina Elia (born April 27, 1972 in Milan ) is a former Italian tennis player .

Career

Farina, who started tennis at the age of ten, is one of the most successful tennis players in Italy. From 2001 to 2003 she won the WTA tournament in Strasbourg three times in a row ; in 2002 she defeated the then top 10 player Jelena Dokić in the final . In the same year she reached her best position in the WTA world rankings with number 11 .

In doubles she was able to book nine tournament wins on the WTA Tour . There are also six titles at ITF level.

From 1993 to 2004 Farina played for the Italian Fed Cup team ; their record shows 21: 8 wins in singles and two wins and three defeats in doubles. She also competed three times in the Olympic Games for her country (singles and doubles each).

In 1999, Silvia Farina married her trainer Francesco Elia. In October 2005 she ended her professional career.
