Skomack Wielki (Osada) ( German  Thalau ) is a small town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to Gmina Stare Juchy ( rural community (old) Jucha , 1938 to 1945 Fließdorf ) in the powiat Ełcki ( Lyck district ).

Geographical location

The hamlet ( Polish Osada ) Skomack Wielki is located in the eastern Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , 16 kilometers west of the district town of Ełk ( German  Lyck ).

history

Around 1855 the estate of Hugo Mrongovius was founded as a dismantling to Skomatzko , which was renamed "Thalau" on December 4, 1895 and became a residential area of the rural community of Skomatzko in the Lyck district . In 1905 the small town had 43 inhabitants.

As a result of the war, all of southern East Prussia and with it Thalau became part of Poland in 1945 and received the Polish form of name “Skomack Wielki (Osada)”. Today the place is the seat of a Schulzenamt ( Polish Sołectwo ) and thus a place in the network of the rural community Stare Juchy (( old) Jucha , 1938 to 1945 Fließdorf ) in the powiat Ełcki ( Lyck district ), until 1998 of the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then the Warmia Voivodeship -Masures associated.

Until 1945 Thalau was parish in the Protestant Church Klaussen ( Polish Klusy ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Roman Catholic Church Lack (Polish Ełk ) in the Diocese of Warmia . Today, on the Catholic side, the place belongs to the church in Skomack Wielki , a branch church of the Klusy parish in the Ełk diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland . The Protestant church members stick to the church in Ełk, a branch church of the parish Pisz ( German Johannisburg ) in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .

Skomack Wielki (Osada) is located on the side road 1852N that connects Rożyńsk (Rosinsko , 1938 to 1945 Rosenheide) with the village of Skomack Wielki . Skomack Wielki is also the closest train station to the Czerwonka – Ełk ( German  Rothfließ – Lyck ) railway line, which is no longer regularly used .
