Beginnings and lending businesses

Slobodan Rajković began his career in the youth team of the OFK Belgrade , where he was brought into the first team when he was 15. His performances led to English club Chelsea signing the 16-year-old. However, he stayed on loan with OFK. In 2007 , Rajković was awarded to the Dutch honorary division PSV Eindhoven . The following year he played for league rivals FC Twente Enschede . The loan deal with FC Chelsea was then extended by a season in which Rajković was Dutch champions with FC Twente. For the 2010/11 season, the English awarded him again, again in the Eredivisie to Vitesse Arnhem , where he was team captain . For the 2011/12 season he returned to Chelsea. As before, he was refused a work permit because Serbia is outside the territory of the European Union . To play in the Premier League, he would have to have a second pass from an EU member state or a certain number of senior international matches.

Hamburger SV

For this reason, Rajković left Chelsea FC for good in August 2011 and moved to the German Bundesliga club Hamburger SV . He signed a four-year contract valid until June 30, 2015. He received the jersey with the number 23, which Rafael van der Vaart had last worn. In his competitive debut for HSV against 1. FC Köln , he scored the goal to make it 2-2 (final score 3: 4).

In preparation for the 2012/13 season , there was an argument between Rajković and Son Heung-min , in which the uninvolved Tolgay Arslan was lacerated. He was then suspended and transferred to the regional league team. Coach Thorsten Fink emphasized that Rajković would not come back to the team. Furthermore, Rajković criticized Fink in an interview with the Hamburger Abendblatt , why he was sentenced to a fine. In early October 2012, Rajković apologized for his behavior. Fink accepted the apology, but initially did not bring him back to the professional team. On October 28, 2012 Rajković ran for the first time for the U-23 of HSV in the Regionalliga Nord and scored a goal in the 3-1 home win against VfB Lübeck . Previously, as a "non-EU foreigner", he was not eligible to play for the U-23.

At the beginning of November 2012 Fink brought him back to the first team. On January 27, 2013 Rajković made his comeback when he was substituted on for Heung-Min Son in the 3-2 home win in the north derby against Werder Bremen just before the end of the game. By the end of the season he had twelve more missions.

For the 2013/14 season Rajković was sorted out again together with Michael Mancienne , Robert Tesche and Gojko Kačar , this time for sporting reasons, and transferred to the U-23. He and Mancienne were later pardoned but still not nominated for the Games. Shortly before Bert van Marwijk was the new coach, Rajković had torn an inner ligament in his left knee during training, which put him out of action until December. Under van Marwijk, Rajković was twice in the squad, but was not substituted on. Before the 22nd matchday, the club changed coach again. Under Mirko Slomka , who as the new coach wanted to give all players a chance due to injury concerns in the relegation battle, Rajković was in the starting line-up in the 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on February 22, 2014 . It was his first appearance for the first team since May 18, 2013. A week later, in the 1-0 defeat in the north derby against Werder Bremen, he tore a cruciate and ankle ligament in his left knee.

Rajković made his comeback in a competitive game on November 29, 2014 when the second team lost 2-1 to VfB Oldenburg . On January 31, 2015, he played for the first time in the Bundesliga in the 2-0 home defeat against 1. FC Köln . In the second half of the season he was then used regularly and came to eleven missions with HSV in the relegation battle. On the last day of the match he secured the club with a goal in a 2-0 win against FC Schalke 04 to make it onto the relegation site. Against the Karlsruher SC , the Hamburg team managed to stay up. The club did not extend the contract that expired at the end of the season.

SV Darmstadt 98

After Rajković had been without a contract since July 2015, he joined SV Darmstadt 98 on September 29, 2015 . He received a contract until June 30, 2017. Rajković made his league debut on November 7, 2015 (12th matchday) in a 1-1 draw against his former club Hamburger SV when he was in stoppage time in the second half for Marcel Heller was substituted on. Rajković scored his only Bundesliga goal for Darmstadt in the away win against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , when he scored 2-0 in the 85th minute.

US Palermo

For the 2016/17 season Rajković joined the Italian first division club US Palermo . At the end of his first season in Italy he was relegated to the second-rate Serie B with Palermo . His engagement in Palermo ended with the end of the 2018/19 season.

AC Perrugia Calcio

After almost seven months without a club, Rajkovic joined AC Perrugia Calcio in Serie B in January 2020 .

National team

In the Serbian U-21 national team Rajković made his competitive debut in 2005 in the U-21 World Cup qualification. In the senior national team he made his debut on May 24, 2008 in the game against Ireland , another appearance followed four days later against Russia .

On September 4, 2008, he was banned from FIFA for twelve months for spat in the face of a referee at the 2008 Olympic football tournament in China. This penalty was later commuted and the ban was only issued for international matches.

His comeback in the A-Eleven lasted just six minutes on October 12, 2010. In the European Championship qualification he was in the starting line-up of the Serbs at the match in Genoa against Italy . However, the game was canceled due to spectator riots.
