Neighboring towns are Międzylesie in the north, Dolnik in the northeast, Pisary in the east, Boboszów in the southeast and Kamieńczyk in the west. history

Schönau was laid out as a row village around 1530 and was dedicated to the Mittelwalde parish church. It belonged to the Habelschwerdter district in the Glatzer Land , with which it shared the history of its political and ecclesiastical affiliation. After the Silesian Wars it came together with the County of Glatz in 1763 with the Hubertusburg Peace to Prussia . As part of the Prussian reforms in 1807 with the October Edict, submission was lifted. After the reorganization of Prussia, Schönau belonged to the province of Silesia from 1815 and was initially incorporated into the district of Glatz . In 1818 it was reclassified to the Habelschwerdt district , to which it belonged until 1945. Since 1874 it was incorporated into the district of Mittelwalde, which also included the rural communities Bobischau, Grenzendorf, Herzogswalde, Rothflössel, Schreibendorf, Schönthal and Steinbach. In 1939 there were 384 inhabitants.

As a result of the Second World War , Schönau fell to Poland in 1945, like almost all of Silesia, and was renamed Smreczyna . The German population was expelled. Some of the new residents were displaced from eastern Poland . The population decreased significantly in the post-war years. From 1975 to 1998 Smreczyna was part of the Wałbrzych Voivodeship .
