Backstory

Dream On, Dreamer split from their previous label UNFD after releasing their second album Loveless . In mid-January 2014, singer Marcel Gadacz announced that the group had started writing new pieces. For the first time, the entire band is said to have been involved in developing the song material. In April 2014 bassist Daniel Jungwirth left the group and was replaced by Chris Shaw , who is also active in the band House vs Hurricane .

It was said that the musicians had planned to produce the album with Steve Evetts, who had already worked with The Dillinger Escape Plan , Every Time I Die and Poison the Well . He worked with the band on the song Darkness Brought Me Here , which was first played on Triple J and released on August 8, 2014. Another new song was later released with Don't Lose Your Head . These two pieces would later end as stand-alone singles.

In mid-August 2015 it was announced that the album would be titled Songs of Soulitude and the pre-order phase was ushered in, although no release date has yet been announced. It was also announced that the musicians would not work on the album with Evetts, but with Matt Goldman in the Glow in the Dark Studios . With the release of the main single Vertigo , Songs of Soulitude was announced for November 13, 2015.

canditature

The musicians ran a competition during the pre-order phase in which they contacted someone who was pre-ordering the album at random and recorded a song for that person.

In June 2014, the group toured with Being as an Ocean as opening act for In Hearts Wake on their Earthwalker Tour through Australia . Two more tours followed between August and November of the same year, including the ... And the Light Pulled Me Back Tour , through Down Under. In January 2015 a concert tour with Any Given Day and Caliban followed through several European countries , including Germany , Austria and Switzerland . This was followed immediately by a short series of concerts through the United Kingdom , France and Russia . At the beginning of May the band could be seen again in Australia as the main support for Silverstein . Another European tour should follow between September and October 2015, this time as the opening act for Breakdown of Sanity . However, the band had to cancel their participation in this tour due to the unclear health situation of their singer Marcel Gadacz at the time. In addition, drummer Aaron Fiocca left Dream On, Dreamer and was replaced by Dylan Kuiper.

Songs of Soulitude
  AU 29 11/29/2015 (1 week)

Although the album was produced and released entirely without the help of a record label, it entered the national album charts at number 29 in the week of November 29, 2015 . Songs of Soulitude stayed there for a week before it left the charts again.

Chanel Issa of the Australian Blunt Magazine writes that the group has developed again since its predecessor Loveless in 2013. The group works a lot with melodic inserts to keep the sound light. The group also play lyrically with highly significant texts. She describes the album as the band's best work to date and calls the album complete, which, in her opinion, was rare in the music year 2015. Their conclusion is that the album is food for the soul. Dan Stapleton of the Australian Rolling Stone is also of the opinion that the group released their best work with this album. The electronic influences have declined, but the musicians have experimented heavily on their music, which is what makes the songs Open Sun and Violent Pictures so special. The album is good enough to appeal to lovers of classic hardcore as well as melodic metalcore . Alex Sievers of Kill Your Stereo describes bands like The Amity Affliction and Haste the Day as musical references. Owen Morawitz of Hysteria Mag judged that the separation from the label came at just the right time, as the group sounded like Underoath , Norma Jean and the, in his opinion, underrated As Cities Burn , instead of the constantly sounding warped tour bands of today Time. According to Neil Criddle, the song Snowpiercer could even have been written by the band Deftones .

Aaron-Conin Hane from the German Stageload describes the band as an oasis in the music scene that knows no borders. The music is described as a mix of post-hardcore , mathcore and pop music . The critic particularly praised the singing of Zachary Britt, even if he suggests that it will initially take getting used to listening to this voice. Nevertheless, the group manages to underpin this singing appropriately, as in the pieces Snowpiercer or Violent Pictures , so that they can achieve the full effect. He gave the album the highest number of points.

The album received mostly medium to positive reviews.
