Spectacular Spider-Man ( English. The Spectacular Spider-Man Animated Series ) is an American animated series , which is based on the comic adventure of Spider-Man from the Marvel publishing house by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko . The series was developed for television by Greg Weisman and Victor Cook on behalf of Sony Pictures Television .
action
The two seasons tell of Peter Parker's career at Spider-Man and his first encounters with various super villains of the Marvel universe .
season 1
In the first season of the series, Peter Parker aka Spider-Man has to face the super villains of New York in order to be able to spread peace and justice in the city again. These include Dr. Octopus, the unknown Big Man , the green goblin, the vulture, tombstone, electro, the lizard, sandman, rhino, hammerhead, the black cat and the chameleon. In the season finale, Spider-Man faces the symbiote Venom.
season 2
In the second season, Peter Parker's private life is in the foreground, which is increasingly threatened by his second identity. He also has to face new opponents, including the mysterious Master Planner , Kraven the Hunter, Silver Sable, Roderick Kingsley, Molten Man, Mysterio and the Tinkerer.
Development and production
The series was produced by Culver Entertainment and the animation studio Adelaide Productions . The series was produced under Victor Cook, as executive director, and Greg Weisman, as story editor. Sean Galloway designed the character drafts for all characters appearing in the series and attempts were made to copy the movement style of Spider-Man from the real film adaptations by Sam Raimi .
The series’s theme song was originally written and recorded by The Tender Box .
Cancellation of the series
Originally, at least 65 episodes were planned for the series, but when Sony returned the TV rights to Marvel on September 1, 2009, the future of the series was in the unknown. On April 13, 2010, Marvel announced that there would be no more episodes for the series, but that a new series based on the Ultimate Spider-Man comic series would be produced.
All that is known about the further course of "The Spectacular Spider-Man" is that the rest of the series would have covered Peter's school days and that in the third season, Scorpio and Hobgoblin would have appeared as new opponents, among others.
