Srednji Banat ( Serb. Srednje-Banatski okrug or Средње-Банатски округ, ung. Közép- bánsági körzet, rum. Districtul Banatul Central, slowak. Sredobanátsky okres, German  district Mittelbanat ) is in its east to Romania adjacent Serb administrative district in the central part the Vojvodina .

It consists of the following city administrations:

  • Novi Bečej (Hungarian: Törökbecse , German: Neu-Betsche )
  • Nova Crnja (Hungarian: Magyarcsernye , German: Neuzerne )
  • Žitište (Hungarian: Bégaszentgyörgy , German: Sankt Georgen an der Bega)
  • Sečanj (Hungarian: Szécsány , German: Setschan)
  • Zrenjanin (Hungarian: Nagybecskerek , German : Großbetschkerek)

According to the 2002 census, this district has 221,253 inhabitants. The main administrative seat is the city of Zrenjanin .

The ethnic distribution is as follows: Serbs (150,794 or 75%), Magyars (27,842), Romanians (5,156).

There are also some landmarks in this district, for example the Orthodox Church of the Assumption from 1746, the Roman Catholic Cathedral from 1868 and the Church of Education from 1891.

The main industries are agriculture, forestry, construction and transport.

The leading branch, however, is the food industry with the Servo Mihalj group at the top. Other important companies are the ZIP brewery , the Luxol chemical combine and the Žarko Zrenjanin furniture factory .
