history
In 1960, the state capital of Munich decided under the first Munich City School Councilor, Anton Fingerle, to found an “Institute for obtaining university entrance qualifications”. The target group was defined as “forward-striving, younger people with good talents and impeccable leadership, who have proven themselves in their jobs and who were denied the normal route to the school-leaving exam”. On October 2, 1961, classes began at the “Münchenkolleg, municipal institute for university entrance qualification” with two classes. It was initially housed in the Harlaching district in the rooms of the Rotbuchenschule (elementary school). It later moved to the adjacent municipal Theodolinden grammar school .
In the summer of 1984 the Münchenkolleg was relocated again when the opportunity arose to be accommodated in the rooms of the newly built Anton-Fingerle-Bildungszentrum (AFBZ). This center also houses the municipal evening grammar school, the socio-educational technical schools and the municipal technical college for social affairs and design.
The course at the Münchenkolleg was originally divided into five semesters. However, this changed in 1966 when the division of the school year was adapted to that of the grammar schools. In the school year 2009/10 there was a changeover to the G8 in the upper level . There are currently around 300 students enrolled at the college.
