Kindergarten and primary school of the Lycée Jean Renoir

The Lycée Jean Renoir is a French school in Munich that teaches high school students between the ages of 11 and 18. This also includes an elementary school (primaire) and a kindergarten (maternelle). It is the largest French educational institution in Germany and is subordinate to the French authority “Agence pour l'enseignement français à l'étranger” (AEFE).

history

As part of a parents' initiative, the school was founded in Munich in 1953 in the French institute there. It is named after the French film director Jean Renoir . In 1965 she moved to Oettingenstrasse. In 1976 the elementary school was recognized by the Bavarian state as a bilingual “ substitute school ”. In 1970 the company moved again to a villa in the Bogenhausen district . At that time the school had 165 students.

In 1977 it was relocated to Berlepschstraße 3, near Harras , and has been permanently located there ever since. During the move, the number of students was 380, in 2006 it was 1,200. In the 2007/08 school year the kindergarten and primary school were relocated to Giesing at Ungsteinerstraße 50, but the headquarters remained in Sendling.

Classes follow the curriculum of the French Ministry of Education. However, some necessary changes have been made to adapt the teaching to the German culture and language. Visiting the school costs between 3500 and 5000 euros per year, depending on the age group.

building

The Lycée Jean Renoir consists of two different school buildings. One is located in Munich's Giesing district at Ungsteinerstraße 50 and houses the kindergarten and elementary school ( École maternelle and École élémentaire ). The building has 4 floors, a basement, a school yard and a sports facility.

The second building, the actual main building (with management and administration), is located at Berlepschstraße 3 in the Sendling district of Munich and is intended for the grammar school ( college and lycée ). It also consists of 4 floors, a basement and a schoolyard.

A section européenne (European department / section or similar) has existed since 2013 , which is based on the combination of the English language with biology, geography and physics, and is intended to give students an advantage in the selection of students in universities.
