The state-run Asam-Gymnasium Munich (short: Asam ) in the Munich district of Giesing was founded in 1935 as the Hans-Schemm- Aufbauchule and later named after the artist brothers Asam .

history

The school was founded in 1935 as the Hans-Schemm-Aufbauschule . The school building in what was then Frühlingsstrasse (today Eduard-Schmid-Strasse) was bombed. After the end of the Second World War , the school was initially housed in a neighboring school under the name Oberrealschule an der Fruehlingsstrasse . In the 1960s the school received its current name, Asam-Gymnasium , named after the artist brothers Cosmas Damian and Egid Quirin Asam . At that time the school community of the then closed spring high school was relocated to Giesing.

Schlierseestrasse property

The grammar school has been located in today's property at Schlierseestraße 20 since 1964, was one of the last boys grammar schools until 1976 and was one of the last two grammar schools in Bavaria to have regular Saturday classes until 1986 .

Since 1975, the Asam-Gymnasium has had its own classes for students with a secondary school leaving certificate (Realschulreife, M-Zweig-Mittelschule) to prepare for the upper level of the Gymnasium.

Trainee teachers have been trained at the previous school since 1950. Today's Asam-Gymnasium follows on from this tradition and is a seminar school for the subjects of mathematics, physics, sports (male), biology, chemistry, German, English, history and evangelical religion.

Since 2005, the originally mathematical and natural science grammar school has had a linguistic branch in addition to the scientific and technological one .

The school was the first public grammar school in Munich to set up a bound all -day branch ( bound all-day grammar school , grades 5 through 8).

Because of the all-day high school, an extension was built on the east side in 2006/07, which contains a cafeteria on the ground floor and group rooms and a school library on the first floor. At the beginning of the 2010/11 school year, six more new classrooms could be moved into on the west side of the school building. In the 2012–2016 school years, all science classrooms and collections were renovated. In autumn 2016, the Asam-Gymnasium became barrier-free with the construction of a modern elevator.

Elective classes

HoriZONTec

Since the school year 2012/13, the Asam-Gymnasium takes as one of six high schools in Bavaria in the project "HoriZONTec" ( H andlungs ori teach entiert, Z promote ukunftskompetenzen, O develop rganisationsformen, N aturwissenschaften and Tec hnology strengthen) part. Two out of five classes in the tenth grade deal intensively and interdisciplinary ( art , geography , chemistry , physics , biology and German ) with the topic "The city - living space of the future". Lectures by experts from the City of Munich and similar events are also integrated into the project. Since the 2016/2017 school year, the Asam-Gymnasium has been a model school in the field of study seminars for the "Student Feedback" project of the State Ministry for Education and Culture, Science and Art .

Asamese circus

The high school was also known for the Asamese Circus that was established in 1994 . The group of artists was brought into being by the then sports and chemistry teacher Jürgen Adams (* 1947 in Steinhöring ). He studied in Munich, had been working at the school since 1976 and initiated the Asamese Circus in 1994. Adams has four children.

In March 1995 the first appearance of a group of students took place, which has set itself the task of working as an artist group. Just four months later, the now 20-strong troupe appeared for the second time and in the same year had their first engagements at a primary school in Ottobrunn and at two sports clubs. Performances outside of school followed in the 1996/1997 school year. Performances such as in a large circus tent in front of around 450 spectators at the Obergiesing district week , on the 15th anniversary of the Neuperlach shopping center - pep, as well as four TV appearances on various broadcasters gave the troupe an increasing level of awareness. When they took part in the 1st Bavarian Circus Festival in September 1997 on the Tollwood  site, the troupe was given the name Asamese Circus . The Asamese circus had around 80 students and had over 50 public and television appearances.
