Founding president was Georg Nagler , founding chancellor Ralf Theune.
An increasing number of courses and several structural extensions have meanwhile provided for a total of approx. 3,500 students and approx. 77 professors .
The university is located in the east of the city. It shares the campus with the University for Public Service in Bavaria . There is also the digital start-up center Einstein 1 and the Institute for Energy and Water Management (IWE).
Scientific structure
The university of applied sciences is divided into the departments
- Faculty of Economics
- Faculty of Computer Science
- Faculty of Engineering
Model project " university dual "
Since 2005, the Hof University of Applied Sciences has offered the opportunity to combine studies with vocational training. You save up to two years compared to the normal process - training with subsequent studies. In addition, the students receive a training allowance during their in-company training and for the time they work in the company. In addition, many companies are willing to contribute to the tuition fees and to support the students with a scholarship during the theory semester. On the one hand, it is hoped that the students will be seamlessly integrated into the company after completing their studies and, if necessary, be able to take on management tasks immediately. On the other hand, this collaboration increases the bond between companies and students. This creates an incentive for qualified university graduates to stay in the region. As a rule, interns receive an employment contract after graduation. Furthermore, a degree with in-depth practice (SmvP) is offered in individual cases.
Student Initiatives
Student representation
The student council (SV for short) is made up of students from all faculties and acts as a contact for all students at the university. She represents their interests vis-à-vis the university administration and enriches everyday student life with various projects and events. The student representatives occupy a room at the university that is used as an office and contact point. There are weekly meetings in which the most important topics and organizational matters are discussed. The most famous event is the "BOOM party" that takes place every semester. The number of visitors varies between 800 and 1400 people.
Students in town
Students in the City (SidS for short) is an initiative launched by Hofer Stadtmarketing und Studenten in 2009 to increase the interest of the university's students in the city center. Participating partners grant advantages when showing a student ID, such as discounts, in return they are advertised by the program at the university. So that the participating shops and restaurants can be recognized immediately, they are given a sticker with the "SidS" logo, which is to be hung in the entrance area.
HofSspannung Motorsport e. V.
HofSspannung Motorsport, founded by 15 students from various courses at Hof University, currently has 35 members. In addition to industrial engineers, computer scientists, mechanical engineers, media designers and business economists are also represented. This broad range of disciplines creates an ideal basis for successfully contesting the “Formula Student” project. To enable efficient work, the team is divided into working groups. This has the advantage that every student can use their strengths and skills in a targeted manner.
Formula student project
The Formula Student project is geared towards practical application and offers students the opportunity to gain experience in planned, effective and interdisciplinary teamwork. The project promotes soft skills and initiative of committed fellow students.
Hofer Consulting Group
The Hofer Consulting Group is a student management consultancy that was founded in 2005. It gives its members the chance to work on projects for regional companies and thus gain experience for working life. The projects are very different and thus connect students from different courses. The students can apply the knowledge they have learned in the projects, deepen their soft skills and gain additional skills. In addition, training courses, workshops and lectures are offered. The group's services range from competitor analysis and competitor analysis to the creation of business plans and market entry strategies.

Applicants for the International Management course must undergo an aptitude assessment procedure. This includes a written language test in English, French or Spanish and a personal interview. A year abroad (4th and 5th semester) is compulsory in the International Management course. The students complete a practical semester abroad and then study a semester at a foreign partner university. The opportunity of a study semester or a practical semester abroad is now increasingly being used by students from other courses.
expansion
In 2009, the construction of a new institute for information systems was planned until 2012 with an estimated cost of 9.3 million euros, which the Bavarian state government financed from the Bayern FIT - Research, Innovation, Technology program (created from the privatization funds earmarked for the construction of the Transrapid) . It should offer 69 rooms on around 2000 m² and, in addition to research and development, can also be used for teaching.
The latest project includes the construction of a water institute at Hof University. The research institute examines possibilities for the intelligent use of resources with a focus on water and energy efficiency, for example research into groundwater purification.
Hof University of Applied Sciences has been involved in the digital start-up center since January 19, 2017 . In addition to the focus on entrepreneurship , the Hof University of Applied Sciences makes it easier for students to start their own business. Startups receive advice and support in matters of company formation. A building with offices, coworking spaces and a start-up café was built for this start-up center, the Einstein 1 digital start-up center on Albert-Einstein-Straße, directly on the university campus.
The electrical engineering course has been offered since the winter semester 2019.
Innovations
In the IT / Technology department, a cluster of parallel computers is being developed in the BeowulfProject2004 .

Every semester, the university offers several sporting competitions and events such as volleyball tournaments or the university biathlon in collaboration with the neighboring university for the public service in Bavaria. In addition to a sports hall with its own strength training room, the HS Hof campus offers three beach volleyball fields, three tennis courts and two hard courts.
Semester ticket
Since the winter semester 2010/11 there has been a semester ticket for the Hof city bus and for buses and trains (only DB Regio) to the Münchberg site at Hof University . Along with Coburg and Landshut, Hof is one of the few cities in Bavaria without a university that has a semester ticket.
