The Gymnasium Munich / Moosach (short: GMM ) is a scientific, technological and modern language high school founded in 1973 in the Munich district of Moosach .
location
Together with the Artur-Kutscher-Realschule and the elementary school on Gerastraße , the grammar school is located in the school center completed in 1976 between Gera, Leipziger, Merseburger and Feldmochinger Straße .
history
The mathematics and natural science grammar school, founded in 1973, began its lessons on September 13, 1973 with 162 students in two grades on the top floor of the furniture store at Allacher Strasse 80. In the 1974/75 school year the school already had 379 students. The topping-out ceremony for the planned school center took place on June 19, 1975, but despite the further increase in the number of pupils, school operations in the new building could only start after it was finally completed in September 1976.
The lack of space in the furniture store building, which had been provisionally used to date, became particularly apparent when the pre-Christmas party on December 18, 1975, with all the speeches and performances included, had to be held in four shifts so that all students could participate.
The school building was officially opened on July 26, 1977 in the presence of Federal Minister Hans-Jochen Vogel and Munich Mayor Georg Kronawitter . On the occasion of the 25th anniversary in 1998, a photo exhibition about the GMM took place in the Olympic shopping center .
The first FC Moosach was established in 1975 by the pupils of class 6a under the direction of the upper Study Rats Köppl.
With the end of the 2009/2010 school year, Peter Riedner's almost twenty-year term as headmaster of the Munich / Moosach grammar school ended, making way for René Horak. The innovations from Horak included, for example, the introduction of a sports class especially for young top athletes and - in addition to the already existing sports working groups - the promotion of the sport of triathlon at the grammar school.
After several structural problems in the school building, it was decided in 2012 to renovate the school building for 92 million euros. A new building would have resulted in calculated costs of 116 million euros, but it also failed due to the lack of availability of suitable space. The renovation, which will take place while the school is still open, should be completed in 2017.
Naming
The Gymnasium Munich / Moosach is, along with the Gymnasium Fürstenried and the Gymnasium Munich-Trudering, one of the three Munich high schools that are named after the respective districts. An initiative by the SMV to change the school name was unsuccessful. In a survey of students in 2001, a majority were in favor of keeping the name.
