The late Gothic St. Veit and St. Michaels Church is the Evangelical Lutheran parish church of the Upper Franconian market town of Heiligenstadt .

location

The free-standing bell tower stands on the remains of an earlier castle.

history

The St. Vitus and St. Michaels Church goes back to an earlier tithe barn . The remains of the churchyard wall indicate a former fortified church. This is emphasized by the free-standing bell tower.

The deed of foundation from 1168 is the oldest evidence of a church building. Nothing is known about the construction at that time.
