history

Parish

It is attested to as a parish in 1159. As a branch , the place Rammelfangen belonged to the parish of Ihner . In 1559, St. Mary was named as the patroness of the church. In the 17th century, the parish in the neighboring village of Niedaltdorf co- administered the parish of Ihn, in which a chaplain served. In 1698 the parish of Ihn regained its independence. In 1732 there was a change of patronage from St. Mary to St. Hubertus. From 1955 the parish Ihn, which until then had its own pastor, was again co-administered by Niedaltdorf. From 1995 to 1998 the pastor of the Hemmersdorfer parish took over the administrative tasks in Ihn, to whose support a vicar lived in the Ihner parsonage . The Gisingen pastoral care unit has been responsible for the parish of Ihn since 1998 .

Building history

Due to the mention of Him as a parish in 1159, there was a parish church at that time. Parts of the church tower could still come from this time, which is indicated by a sound opening with round pillars and fighter stone on the west side of the tower , which stylistically matches the 12th century . The Gothic style portal on the first floor of the tower is a change from a later period. It bears the year 1616 in the keystone of the portal vestments. In 1726 the church had to be rebuilt, whereby the tower and the Gothic choir were preserved . The inauguration took place in 1732 by the Trier auxiliary bishop Lothar Friedrich von Nalbach . In 1836 the nave was extended to the south by an axis and a deep gallery was installed . The tower received a new helmet in 1846 . During the Second World War , the church suffered severe damage in 1939/40, which was repaired by 1942 so that services could take place again . After 1945 restoration and reconstruction work was carried out in which the deep gallery was shortened and the ceiling was stuccoed .

Furnishing

Three altars , which were consecrated in 1732, have been preserved from the furnishings from the time the nave was rebuilt in the 18th century . There are two side altars, one of which is now used as the Marian altar and the other as the Sacred Heart Altar, and a high altar . From the former pulpit of the church, the panels with the four evangelists remained , which are now attached to the side walls in the chancel . From the former communion rail two fragments found in the pews use again. The figures in the niches of the altars were purchased in 1893. The plastic structure on the high altar was added after the Second World War.

Today's pulpit originally comes from a Trier church, then came to Primstal and was acquired by the Ihner parish after the Primstal church was demolished. The confessional under the gallery and the bench cheeks with Art Nouveau ornaments also come from Primstal . The Way of the Cross from 1801 and two paintings on the side walls of the nave come from the former Catholic Church of Lorenzen near Saarunion / Alsace .

On the first floor of the tower there is a baptismal font that originally stood in the parish church of Niedaltdorf. There are also two gravestones there , one of which is signed “Guldner Bedersdorf”. The Guldners were one in many places of the 18th century Saargau active family of sculptors , the u. a. were responsible for the altars of the Church of St. Martin in Berus .

From Ernst Alt ( Saarbruecken ) the designs for the grid to the tower, the wall lights and come lectern in the pulpit.

In addition, there are many furnishings in the church from other churches or that have been acquired in art dealers or markets over the years .

The organ of the church was built by the Mayer company ( Heusweiler ).
