description
The instrumental is a slow, minimally dub piece. Clocking is a melody of a double bass . The melody is accompanied by wet and wooden looking drums . In addition, the whole thing is accompanied by a, not always present, melody of a dominant and several accompanying saxophones . This melody also introduces the intro. In the many existing versions, additional instruments, melodies and tones are sometimes used.
history
The original was produced by Winston Riley in 1973 . In the same year the first song appeared on the riddim with the name "Stalag 17" by the band Techniques on the label of the same name. In the 1970s, only two more songs were released in 1975 and 1976. One of them was the single "Jim Squashey" by Big Youth . One song is a jazz version, produced by the Jamaican saxophonist Dean Fraser , called "Sax Excursion" . After a year with no releases and only two in 1988, eleven versions appeared two years later on various labels by various artists, including Tenor Saw , Mad Cobra and Shabba Ranks . Several singles appear on this riddim every year until 1995. The artist Cocoa Tea released three songs on the Stalag Riddim in 1994. After no song was released in 1996, the popularity of the riddim decreased again. However, a few songs continued to appear until a total of 31 tracks were released on various labels in 2000.
