from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a computer game based on the Star Wars universe developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts (EA) .

The third-person action adventure was released on November 15, 2019 for the Microsoft Windows operating system and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game consoles .

action

The game is set five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith . The protagonist - the Padawan (Jedi student) Cal Kestis - barely survived Order 66, in which almost all Jedi were killed, and now has to find his way in the Galactic Empire. His goal is to rebuild the old Jedi Order. For this he needs to continue the traditions of the Jedi, by concluding his training at a Jedi, developed new power abilities and lightsaber combat improved. He is hunted by the Galactic Empire in the form of inquisitors - deadly assassins . The action starts in an imperial shipyard on the planet Bracca. Old Venators of the Republic are cannibalized here. After Cal Kestis uses the Force to rescue his friend Prauf, the Empire looks for the fugitive Jedi. After the padawan duels with the second sister, an inquisitor of the Empire, he is rescued by the crew of the Mantis. This consists of Cere Junda, a former Jedi, and Greez. These take Cal to Bogano, where he meets the droid BD-1. With this, Cal goes to the old vault on Bogano in which BD-1 plays a hologram of the Jedi master Eno Cordova. Cal learns, through Cordova, of a holocron in which the names of young powerful children are stored. As the story progresses, Cal finds old Zeffo artifacts that he needs to open the vault.

development

Stig Asmussen, Creative Director of the game, joined Respawn Entertainment in 2014 as Game Director and leads the studio's second development team. Aaron Contreras, who wrote the story of Mafia III , heads the game's narrative team, which includes Chris Avellone and four other writers. The studio works with Lucasfilm to create new characters and locations. The game was first announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo on June 9, 2018. Shortly afterwards, initial information was published on the publisher's website. A first trailer of the game was shown as part of the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago in April 2019.

The game uses the Unreal Engine 4 and uses temporal image data processing for smoothing. Reflections are realized through Screen Space Reflections , which for technical reasons only reflect objects in the player's field of vision. There is also a level of detail system, because for performance reasons, the entire level is not loaded at once.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order received extremely positive ratings. While the website Metacritic aggregated a Metascore of 90 out of 100 points for the PC version of the game and thus gave it the rating of Universal Acclaim , the versions for console each received 84%.

According to the conclusion of the GameStar tester Dimitry Halley, the game borrows its best mechanics from other titles and thus fits into the Metroidvanias action-adventure subgenre . Even if the story is sometimes a bit too thick, the game unfolds "perfect Star Wars magic". His colleague Heiko Klinge is not that euphoric and only describes the game as a "very good, but by no means outstanding action-adventure". Compared to other games, the fights are not as precise as in Sekiro , the acrobatics are not as spectacular as in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and the puzzles are not as clever as in the Uncharted series. On the other hand, the game does not show any major weaknesses and, in the sum of its parts, is a wonderful single player experience right up to the last minute of the game.

"I've wanted a Star Wars game like this for years."

- Dimitry Halley : GameStar

The German trade magazine PC Games calls Fallen Order a “real solo adventure with no frills”. The game is not perfect, but the mixture of challenging fights, beautifully designed worlds and interesting puzzles would especially convince fans.

"The successful return of the Star Wars solo adventure."

- Matthias Dammes : PC Games

The magazine Golem.de , however, criticizes some design decisions. Corridors and rooms are arranged in a confusing way. Even with a 3D map that can be faded in, the routes are not always visible. In addition, the controls are sometimes imprecise and the respawns cause frustration. Some power skills are barely noticeable to the player. The scope, replayability and atmosphere are, however, consistent.
