Schönborn Palace (Geisenheim)
Schönborn Palace (former Stockheimer Hof ) is a Renaissance aristocratic court from the mid-16th century in Geisenheim in the Rheingau .
Hermann von Stockheim, who came from a noble family from Geisenheim, had the farm built in 1550. Philipp Erwein von Schönborn , the brother of Archbishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn of Mainz , acquired the estate in 1652, which is still owned by the Counts of Schönborn -Wiesentheid.
The building is a typical example of the open mansion type that occurs on the Middle Rhine and Main and has been transferred from the late Gothic form to the Renaissance . The Stockheim family owned other farms of a similar type in Eltville am Rhein (today the seat of the Langwerth von Simmern winery ) and the Stockheimer Hof in Idstein .
The current state of the property is largely due to renovations from the 19th century: In 1875, the Frankfurt architect Heinrich Theodor Schmidt added two half-timbered upper floors in a historicizing Renaissance style to the stone structure .
There is a walled vineyard ( Clos ) around the property .
