Later (until the 16th century) the street between Mönchstrasse and Ossenreyerstrasse was called Pumperstrate , whereby Pumper (Low German: dull sound / blow) suggests a very noisy business. This name, too, was soon history: In the street, inferior goods (plunder) were traded, from which the name Plunnen- or Plundermarkt arose. A town clerk turned this Plunnenmarkt into a Plonniemarkt at the end of the 18th century . Plonnie is the Low German word for Apollonia, an Alexandrian martyr ( patron saint against toothache and headache). Whether it was a typo or a deliberate mix-up (the address Plundermarkt is certainly not very business-promoting) is unclear.
