Sun Zhengcai ( Chinese  孙 政 才 ; born September 25, 1963 in Rongcheng , Shandong Province ) is a Chinese politician of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) who was a member of the Political Bureau of the CCP Central Committee . From November 2012 to July 2017, he was party secretary of the sub-government city of Chongqing .

Life

Sun Zhengcai, a Han Chinese , joined the CCP in 1988 and graduated in agricultural science with a doctorate in the subject. In 2002 he became General Secretary of the Beijing City Council and a member of the Standing Committee of the City Council, and held these functions until 2006. In addition, between 2002 and 2006 he was secretary of the Communist Party district leadership of the Beijing district of Shunyi and also chairman of the Shunyi People's Government.

As Du Qinglin's successor , Sun Zhengcai became Minister of Agriculture and Secretary of the Ministry's Communist Party organization in December 2006 and held both positions until he was replaced by Han Changfu in December 2009. On the XVII. At the 2007 Congress , he was elected to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for the first time and has been a member of it ever since. In December 2009, he replaced Wang Min as secretary of the Communist Party Provincial Board of Jilin Province and remained in that position until Wang Rulin replaced him in December 2012. At the same time, he served as the chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Jilin Province from 2010 to 2012.

Proceedings on suspicion of corruption

On July 24, 2017, the Xinhua News Agency announced that the CCP Central Disciplinary Commission had initiated proceedings against Sun on suspicion of serious breaches of party discipline, a paraphrased form of corruption. Sun Zhengcai is one of the highest party cadres who have so far been investigated as part of the anti-corruption campaign under Xi Jingping . He is only the fourth incumbent member of the CCP Political Bureau and the second Chongqing party leader alongside Bo Xilai , who has been removed from office in the past 20 years.

In May 2018, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
