Susanne Hahn , née Susanne Ritter (born April 23, 1978 in Hildesheim ), is a former German athlete who has specialized in long-distance running. She took part in the Olympic Games twice for Germany and is a five-time German champion.
Career
Susanne Ritter, as she was still called back then, grew up in Barienrode near Hildesheim. She started for SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken in 2005 and is married to her trainer, the professional soldier Frank Hahn.
Susanne Hahn has been a member of the Meckenheim sports club since 2020.
European Championships 2006
In 2005 she won the half marathon competition in 1:14:15 h and the Bietigheim New Year's Eve at the Bonn Marathon .
In January 2006 she ran 1:14:21 h on a difficult half marathon route in Egmond , and in February she improved her 10 km time to 32:48 min in the Dutch road race Groet uit Schoorl Run . A week later she won the Eurocross in Diekirch / LUX, in March she won her fifth national title at the German Cross Country Championships in Regensburg . At the Rotterdam Marathon , her debut over this route, she finished fourth with a time of 2:32:34 h. With that she had immediately achieved the qualification standard for the marathon of the European Championships 2006 in Gothenburg , in which she finished 14th in the individual ranking and won the bronze medal in the team ranking (European Cup). In September she became German runner-up in the 10 km road race in Regensburg.
In 2007 she just missed the individual world championship norm by finishing sixth in the Paris Marathon with 2:33:25 h, but was nominated for the marathon team of the German Athletics Association competing at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka . After Ulrike Maisch and Luminita Zaituc could not compete, Susanne Hahn was next to Melanie Kraus the only German starter and took 43rd place. At the German Championships over 10 km, which took place shortly afterwards in Mannheim, she came third.
Olympic Games 2008
In 2008 she became German runner-up in cross-country skiing (Ohrdruf), achieved a new best time in 1:11:28 h as second in the City-Pier-City Loop Den Haag / NL over the half-marathon distance and then became German champion in the half marathon in Calw in March.
In April, Susanne Hahn set a new best time over 5000 meters in Oberhausen with 15: 43.4 minutes. on. A week later she won the Gutenberg Marathon in Mainz in a new course record time of 2:29:35 h, which again meant a personal best, the German championship title and qualification for the Olympic Games in Beijing . After Irina Mikitenko canceled her injuries, Susanne Hahn was the only German starter alongside Melanie Kraus in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Beijing . Serious stomach problems set in at kilometer 25; nevertheless she fought her way through and finally finished 52nd place in 2:38:31 h. At the German championships in the 10 km road race in Karlsruhe in September she was third.
In 2009 she won the 10 km road race around the Bayerkreuz in Leverkusen in a new personal best of 32:28 minutes. At the German cross-country championships, she finished second behind Sabrina Mockenhaupt . She also won the half marathon of the Paderborn Easter run . In May she won the Düsseldorf Marathon . With her winning time of 2:29:26 h, she not only undercut her previous best performance, but also met the qualification standard for the World Championships in Berlin . There she finished 34th in 2:38:39 h. Three weeks later she became German champion in the 10 km road race in Otterndorf .
In 2010 she took a baby break and her son was born in August. In October she was appointed to the executive committee of the German Athletics Association as athletes spokesperson. She held this office until February 2012.
In 2011 she successfully started her comeback. In April she was second in the German Championships in the half marathon in Griesheim in 1:14:23 h and in September in the German Championships over 10 km in Oelde also second in 33:39 minutes. In October she won the Munich half marathon in 1:13:00 h. Three weeks later she not only undercut her previous best performance in the Frankfurt Marathon with 2:28:49 h, but also met the qualification standard for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Olympic Games 2012
In 2012 she again won the 10 km road race around the Bayerkreuz in Leverkusen and came second in the German half marathon championships in Griesheim in 1:13:45 h behind Simret Restle-Apel, who tested positive two weeks later in a doping control. In July, Susanne Hahn achieved a new personal best over 10 km with 32:12 min at The Classic Tessenderlo in Belgium. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , she finished 32nd with a time of 2:30:22 h. Two months later, she won the Munich Marathon in 2:32:11 h and was the German champion in the 2012 marathon.
The second baby break took place in 2013 and her second son was born in July.
In 2014 she won the 10 km road race around the Bayerkreuz in Leverkusen for the fourth time in 34:04 minutes. In April she became German champion in the half marathon in Freiburg in 1:14:29 h. Susanne Hahn announced her retirement from competitive sports in September 2014 at the age of 36. In 2015 their third son was born.
Hahn continues to run regularly even after her retirement and started in the German Half Marathon Championships in 2018 ; there she was sixth overall and was able to secure the title in the W40 age group. In 2019 she won the title at the German championships over 10 km in Siegburg in the age group W40.
Susanne Hahn lives with her family in Meckenheim .

The German long-distance runner has been the official ambassador of SOS Children's Villages since May 2012 and has participated in several running events for the aid organization.
