Sven Botman (born January 12, 2000 in Badhoevedorp , Noord-Holland ) is a Dutch football player who has been under contract with the French first division club OSC Lille since July 2020 . The central defender has been a Dutch U20 national soccer player since October 2019 .

Career

Botman started playing football for the local club RKSV Pancratius in his hometown Badhoevedorp , Noord-Holland , before moving to the renowned Ajax youth academy in Amsterdam in 2009 at the age of nine . There he played in various junior teams before collecting first appearances for the B-Juniors of the capital city club in the 2015/16 season . For the 2017/18 season he was promoted to the U19, where he established himself as a regular player and scored five goals in 22 league games.

After the strong season, he made his debut on August 17, 2018 (1st matchday) in the 1: 2 away defeat against Roda JC Kerkrade for the reserve in the second-rate Keuken Kampioen Divisie . He also quickly rose to become a regular in the second team. On November 30th (16th matchday) he met for the first time in the professional area in the 5-2 away win against Twente Enschede . In the 2018/19 season he played 28 league games in which the central defender scored two goals. At the same time, he also played in seven U19 UEFA Youth League matches.

In order to be able to collect match practice in the top Dutch division, the Eredivisie , Botman was loaned to SC Heerenveen on July 27, 2019 for the entire 2019/20 season. He made his debut on August 4th (1st matchday) in a 4-0 away win against Heracles Almelo . Already in the first league games he consolidated his regular place next to the Kosovar Ibrahim Drešević . He scored his first goal on October 19 (matchday 10) in a 4-2 away win against AZ Alkmaar . In this season, which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic , he played 26 league games in which he scored two goals.

On July 31, 2020, Botman moved to the French first division club OSC Lille , where he signed a four-year contract.

National team

Botman played five internationals each for the Dutch U15 and U16 national teams in 2015 and 2016 . He then played three times for the U18s in autumn 2017 .

For the U19 he then played ten games, including six qualifying games for the U19 European Championships .

He has been a Dutch U20 national soccer player since October 2019 .
