TNT SAT
TNT SAT is an encrypted digital television package for France and Monaco that has been broadcast by the Canal + Group since 2007 via the Astra satellites at 19.2 ° East.
Article 6 of Law No. 309 from 2007 of March 5, 2007 stipulates that the entire population of France (ie the European metropolis) should be able to receive television digitally, either via aerial television (according to DVB-T), broadband cable or satellite.
Even after the antenna television was switched to DVB-T, antenna and cable could still supply 95% of the population. In order to cover the "white spots", two offers were created on satellites, once the package TNTSAT described here from Astra at 19.2 ° East and Fransat on Eutelsat West 5 at 5.0 ° West, the usual direct reception satellite for France.
Both packages come with Viacrypt encrypted, and the cards are issued only to persons resident in France.
Strategy and competition
TNTSAT is operated by Groupe Canal + , which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Vivendi media group . The package went on air on June 7, 2007 at 19.2 ° East.
TNT SAT enables the reception of the 25 digital French free TV channels. Four million TNT-SAT decoders had been sold by the end of December 2014.
The TNTSAT package can only be received with an external receiver. TNTSAT has a long list of certified receivers. In contrast to FRANSAT, reception with a CAM CI + is not supported, but private users have described it as possible.
In principle, reception is free of charge, but the card must be exchanged every four years for a fee of 15 euros, which led to great resentment in 2011 when the first cards had to be exchanged.
It is also criticized that the operator uses the customer data to offer them its own pay-TV services Canal + and Canalsat .

The TNT-SAT offer includes 25 channels of free TV, some free channels from the offer of Canal +, the 24 regional variants of France 3, several free special-interest channels in French and 36 radio programs. Paris Première broadcasts unencrypted every day from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
