occupation

Pumps is a television film from the crime series Tatort , which is to be broadcast for the first time on September 6, 2020 on ORF , in the program Das Erste and on SRF 1 . It is the 1136th episode in the series, the 47th case of the Austrian investigator Moritz Eisner and the 23rd joint case of the Eisner / Fellner investigative team .

action

This case leads Eisner and Fellner to a Vienna fitness studio . A male corpse is found next to train tracks and the victim is identified as Iovan Savic. Savic could be found in this studio more often and was officially registered as unemployed. Despite his unemployment, he drove an expensive sports car.

After the investigators rule out suicide, Eisner and Fellner look for a possible motive for murder in Savic's surroundings. Such could be a trade in prohibited substances under the protection of the studio. Manfred Schimpf investigates undercover in the studio. During their research, they come across Markus Hangl, a member of a group that makes money through organized social fraud .

production

The 23rd joint crime scene case by Eisner and Fellner was filmed from March 4 to April 2, 2019 in Vienna and the surrounding area. This Tatort episode was produced by Allegro Film on behalf of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation . Joe Knauer was responsible for the sound, Hubert Klausner for the production design, Christine Ludwig for the costumes , Monika Puymann and Birgit Hirscher for the make-up and Eva Roth for the casting.

For Andreas Kopriva, who most recently directed Walking on Sunshine , this was the first film from the Tatort series , as did screenwriter Karin Lomot and writer Robert Buchschwenter. For actor Laurence Rupp , this was the third crime scene episode after Familiensache (2007) and Paradies (2014), and in 2007 he played the friend of Eisner's daughter. Laurence Rupp and Anton Noori were previously in front of the camera in 2017 for the feature film Cops , for which both were awarded the Austrian Film Prize 2019 .

reception

Thomas Gehringer from tittelbach.tv found that the case lived, as usual, from the entertaining interaction between the investigators and the sometimes particularly macabre Austrian tongue. However, the corpse pictures of a man run over by the train are borderline.

Wilfried Geldner wrote in the Weser Kurier that the Viennese shame, familiar from the inspectors, was initially quite a problem. Only when both of them gradually find what they are looking for the background to the rail murder does the small talk give way to more serious matters. Like an onion, the plot gradually peeled off, switching from drug trafficking to large-scale social security fraud. Viewers from Germany should be familiar with terms such as e-card , Arbeitsmarktservice (AMS) and minimum income, as otherwise it would be a bit confusing.
