The pond bat waters are a landscape protection area in the cities of Jever and Varel and the communities of Sande , Zetel , Bockhorn , Schortens and Wangerland in the district of Friesland and in the city of Wittmund and the community of Friedeburg in the district of Wittmund .

The area with the license plate LSG FRI 128 is approximately 726  hectares . About 271 hectares of the landscape protection area comprise parts of the 308.74 hectare FFH area “Teichfledermaus-Habitat im Raum Wilhelmshaven”. A small part of the landscape protection area is also superimposed with the EU bird sanctuary "Marschen am Jade Bay". The nature reserve borders southwest of Sande on the nature reserve " Sandentnahmestelle Neustadtgödens " and southwest of Schortens on the nature reserve "Upjever und Sumpfmoor Dose " and between Sande and Varel on the nature reserve "Marschen am Jadebusen - West" and "Dangast". The area was designated as a landscape protection area on February 1, 2019. Parts of the landscape protection areas "Schwarzes Brack" (LSG FRI 37), "Dangast" (LSG FRI 110), "Marschen am Jadebusen - West" (LSG FRI 126) and "Feldhausen-Barkel" (LSG FRI 127) in the district of Friesland went in newly designated landscape protection area. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Friesland and Wittmund.

The landscape protection area lies west to south of Wilhelmshaven . It comprises five areas designated as Complex A to Complex E, of which Complex D and Complex E are interconnected.

  • Complex A comprising the largest part of the Emden lows, most of the Wieseneder lows the Reepsholter low, most of the Friedeburgerhütte lows with some natural old branches, a portion of the Neustadt lows and the Ellenserdammer depth with the Dangaster low and the black brackish with Adjacent areas and other areas at Ellenserdammer and Dangaster Tief with quarry ponds and grasslands created by former clay mining .
  • Complex B comprises the Upjeversche Tief and Maade in the Friesland district.
  • Complex C comprises part of the Grafschafter ponds created by sand mining. You are surrounded by trees and woods.
  • Complex D comprises a section of the Mühlentief and the Tettenser Tief from Crildumer Tief to Mühlentief and also includes parts of the march on the Schenumer Leide and on the border with the Wittmund district.
  • Complex E includes the Norder Tief in the district of Wittmund, the Poggenkruger Leide, the Dykschloot and the Harle to below Neufunnixsiel as well as parts of the march in particular at Nöttenser Leide as well as Hundshammleide and Toquarder Leide.

The riparian zones along the waters are included in the landscape protection area. Here you can often find reed and riparian perennials . In places the waters are accompanied by groups of trees or individual trees.

Indigenous species

The conservation area is hunting habitat for bats , including pond bat , Daubenton's bat , Natterer's bat , Noctule , brown long-eared , Serotine and Pipistrelle . The flowing waters are habitat for fish such as bitterling , European mud whip , nine-spined stickleback and eel , amphibians , dragonflies such as green damsel and feather dragonflies as well as mussels , including the common and great pond mussel species . The area continues to be a habitat for a variety of birds including kingfisher , bluethroat , reed warbler, and reed warbler . The waters are home to various aquatic plants, including stocks of crayfish claws .

The Grafschafter ponds are habitat for the great crested grebe , water rail , kingfisher and reed warbler as well as feeding and resting habitat for tufted duck , common snipe , sandpiper , whooper swan , gray goose and gadfly . The ponds are home to various amphibians such as the common frog , sea ​​frog , common toad and pond newt and are habitat for dragonflies such as the early reed hunter and the great shell-eye .
