Turpentine is a song by the German hard rock band Böhse Onkelz . The song is the only single from their twelfth studio album Viva los Tioz and was released on August 3, 1998.

Content and background

Turpentine is a “singing song” in which the band praises itself. According to Stephan Weidner , the group wanted to express with the line “ We'll go laughing in the cellar and we'll drink turpentine ” that they don't take themselves as seriously as many people in Germany. It was supposed to tone down the irony behind the "Onkelz-Myth" and express that the band doesn't assume that their word is the only true one.

Furthermore, the text also goes into the media, which criticized the Onkelz since the beginning of their career because of their racist past. So the band exists “to the doom of many” and would prevail against growing opposition. The line " He who sows bad things will reap Onkelz " is aimed directly against these critics.

production

The lyrics of the song were written by Stephan Weidner , the head and bassist of the band. Weidner also took over the production together with the Onkelz guitarist Matthias Röhr .
