The 2009 Thai FA Cup started on June 27th and ended with the final at Suphachalasai Stadium in Bangkok , Thailand on October 21st, 2009. It will be played for the 14th time, most recently in 2001.

general information

The Thai Football Association, the Football Association of Thailand , is responsible for the competition . The clubs are not obliged to take part in the cup competition. The registration period ended on June 20, 2009. The draw took place on June 23, 2009. A total of more than 64 clubs are allowed to take part in the competition. In addition to the professional clubs, university and school teams are also allowed. The competition is sponsored by the Thaicom Foundation and Siam Sports Syndicate . The winner of the competition will receive 1 million Baht and the losing finalist 500,000 Baht. In addition, the winner receives the right to participate in the 2010 AFC Cup . The defending champion is the FC Royal Thai Air Force , which now plays in the Thailand Division 1 League , the second Thai division.

Participating teams

Qualifying round

A total of 28 clubs took part in the qualifying round. These come from the Regional League Division 2 , the 3rd division of Thailand, as well as teams in the fourth to sixth leagues. The winners then move into the first main round. The round was played from June 27th to June 30th, 2009 in the Chulalongkorn University Stadium and the Nong Jork Stadium in Bangkok .

First round

In the first round, 32 teams from Regional League Division 2 , the 3rd division of Thailand, as well as teams from the fourth to sixth leagues can participate. The 16 winners move on to the second round. The first round will be played from July 1st to July 8th, 2009. The venue will be the Chulalongkorn University Stadium and the Nong Jork Stadium. Both stadiums are in Bangkok.

Second round

The 16 qualified clubs from the first round take part in the second round. In addition, there are all 16 clubs in the Thailand Division 1 League . The last winner from 2001, the FC Royal Thai Air Force, will be there . The clubs of Division 1 at a glance:

With Krungkao SA , a single lower-class team made it into this round.

Six clubs from the Thai Premier League were among the 18 teams in the quarter-finals . With FC Surat Thani and FC Nakhon Ratchasima a second and third division was found among the last 8 teams.
