The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle is the second studio album by American rock singer Bruce Springsteen , released in 1973 .

history

After Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ , Springsteen's second album was recorded at 914 Sound Studios in the summer of 1973 . To save money, Springsteen's then producer Mike Appel booked the night hours for the recordings. That and the already bad conditions of the 914 led to productions that were strictly rejected by the CBS officials. Only after a few revisions was the album produced and released in November 1973. Approved by the critics, this album was also denied commercial success for the time being. In the first year after the release, 50,000 copies were sold in the USA, which, as with the first album, was not enough to make the Billboard 200 . In the following years, however, it reached platinum status with one million copies sold.

In 1987 the album was voted number 51 of the 100 best albums of the last 20 years by the American music magazine Rolling Stone and in 2003 it was voted number 132 of the 500 best albums of all time .

In 2010 the album was released with Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ and the five following studio albums in the CD box set The Collection 1973-84 .
