Theo Hill (born May 22, 1982 in Albany , New York ) is an American jazz musician ( piano , composition ) of modern jazz and postbop .

Theo Hill received classical piano lessons using the Taubman method at the age of five ; At the age of twelve he began to occupy himself with jazz and took lessons with Lee Shaw , later with Barry Harris at the Manhattan School of Music . At the age of 16 he appeared regularly in jazz clubs in the Tri-City Area, including the Smalls . Hill then studied at the SUNY Purchase Jazz Conservatory (graduated in 2004), where he took lessons from Charles Blenzig and Hal Galper . After moving to New York City, he performed in clubs like the Blue Note , 55 Bar , Jazz Gallery , Jazz Standard , Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola , Zinc Bar , Lenox Lounge , Minton's Playhouse , St. Nick’s , Smoke , Cornelia Street Cafe or the Fat Cat . I.a. He has played with Jeff Tain Watts , Frank Lacy , Bill Saxton , Curtis Lundy , Gregory Porter , Victor Bailey , Roy Ayers , Lenny White , Bobby Watson , Charles Tolliver , Carmen Lundy , Wallace Roney and Jeremy Pelt throughout his career .

Hill's first recordings were made in 2007 with Ofer Assaf ( Tangible Reality ). He also works under his own name with a trio with whom he plays his own compositions. Dayna Stephens , Myron Walden , Joe Sanders and Rodney Green contributed to his debut album Theo Hill Quartet Live at Smalls (SmallsLive) . In 2017 Hill presented the album Promethean ( Posi-Tone Records ) (with Yasushi Nakamura and Mark Whitfield Jr. ), in 2018 the production Interstellar Adventures (Posi-Tones), with Rashaan Carter and Rudy Royston , which gave him a positive review on Down Beat procured. He is currently (2018) completing a master’s degree at Rutgers University . In the field of jazz he was involved in 13 recording sessions between 2007 and 2017, including a. with TK Blue , Josh Evans and David Gibson . In 2019 he leads a quartet that includes Rashaan Carter (bass), Mark Whitfield Jr. (drums) and Joel Ross (vibraphone).
