Theodor of Locquenghien

Karl Theodor Hubert Freiherr von Locquenghien (born June 24, 1826 in Elsen ; † January 11, 1895 in Bonn ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

His parents were the heir to Laach and Elsen, Joseph August Freiherr von Locquenghien (1777-1851) and his wife Maria Anna, née Baroness von Olne (1790-1862).

Career

After attending grammar schools in Cologne , Neuss and Düsseldorf as well as the division school of the 15th Division , Locquenghien joined the 4th Dragoon Regiment of the Prussian Army in Deutz on August 1, 1843 as a dragoon . By the end of January 1847 he was promoted to second lieutenant and was from mid-May 1850 to the end of April 1853 as squadron leader at III. Battalion in the 6th Landwehr Regiment. In mid-December 1857 he was transferred to the 10th Hussar Regiment in Aschersleben , where he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on April 12, 1859 . On June 16, 1859, Locquenghien was commanded as a squadron leader to the 10th Landwehr Hussar Regiment and was promoted to Rittmeister in mid-November 1859 . When he was appointed chief of the 4th Squadron, he returned to the Magdeburg Hussar Regiment No. 10 on November 15, 1860, which he led in the 1866 war against Austria near Skalitz and Königgrätz .

After the war, on September 5, 1867, he was appointed commander of the cavalry non-commissioned officers' school to take care of business and at the end of the month he was appointed second director of the military equestrian institute in Hanover under the post of his regiment . Promoted to major on October 15, 1867 , he was transferred to the Guard Cuirassier Regiment on June 18, 1869 as a regular staff officer .

For the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Locquenghien was on July 21, 1870 commander of the king's headquarters and took part in the battles at Gravelotte , Beaumont and Sedan as well as the siege of Paris . Awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class, he was inspector of the replacement squadrons of the Guard Corps from May to August 1871 . On December 2, 1871, Locquenghien was assigned to Württemberg as commander of the 1st Uhlan Regiment "King Karl" and at the end of March 1873 was promoted to lieutenant colonel. After being released from his command in Württemberg, he was appointed commander of the Guard Cuirassier Regiment on July 12, 1873. On July 3, 1875, he was promoted to colonel and on September 18, 1880, he received the Order of the Crown, Second Class. Locquenghien married on June 14, 1858 at Söder Castle Theresia Countess of Stolberg-Stolberg (1833–1915), a daughter of Count Andreas Otto Heinrich von Stolberg-Stolberg (1786–1863). The couple had several children:
