Thomas Enevoldsen (born July 27, 1987 in Aalborg ) is a Danish football player .

In the 2007/08 season he was a regular member of the surprise championship team of AaB (Aalborg Boldspilklub). He is the son of the former Danish legionnaire and current assistant coach of Fortuna Hjørring , Peter Enevoldsen .

Enevoldsen has been playing in the United States for Orange County SC in the United Soccer League since February 10, 2018 .

Club career

Aalborg BK

Enevoldsen began his career in the youth of his home club Aalborg BK . In 2005 he made his debut for the then medium-sized company in the SAS league and was used as a supplementary player until the 2007/08 season .

In 2007 he ousted the Swedish legionnaire Mattias Lindström from the starting line-up and developed into an important member of the midfield line of the AaB surprise team. At the side of Andreas Johansson , Kasper Risgård and Thomas Augustinussen , he played an outstanding season that ended for the team with the first championship title since 1999 . On an international level, he was able to record his first success at team level in the run-up to the championship by winning the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2007 and made it to the qualifying round of the 2007/08 UEFA Cup with the AaB . After successes over HJK Helsinki and Sampdoria Genoa they made it into the group stage, where he failed with the club behind FC Getafe , Tottenham Hotspur and RSC Anderlecht in fourth place. Enevoldsen was featured in seven out of eight games at European level and became the club's most successful goalscorer with three goals, including one in the November 2007 away game against Tottenham.

In the following season, the club was able to keep the team and even supplement it with veterans like Marek Saganowski and Kasper Bøgelund . Nevertheless, they did not manage to prolong last year's success at national level and slipped to seventh place in the table. Internationally, however, another club highlight was achieved with qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League. In a group with Manchester United , Villarreal FC and Celtic Glasgow , they held up well and celebrated several respectable successes with a 2-2 draw in Manchester and a 2-1 home win against Glasgow. They finished the group stage before Celtic as third in the table, which ensured advancement in the Uefa Cup . In the sixteenth finals, they swept the favored Deportivo La Coruña away with an aggregate score of 6-1, before they failed in the round of 16 on penalties at Manchester City . The strong international performance of the Aab team had aroused the desire of other clubs, whereupon some players, especially Enevoldsen, were traded as hot transfer candidates.

He was then associated with various European clubs, with Benfica in particular showing great interest in the player's commitment. However, all rumors of change fizzled out. One of the reasons for this was his uncertain physical condition. He had played with an ankle injury throughout the season and only had it treated before the last round of the season. This was followed by convalescence lasting over a month and uncertainty as to whether permanent damage had occurred. In the meantime, half of the successful AaB team, including Augustinussen, Risgård and Beauchamp , had already found a new employer, whereupon Aalborg announced that they wanted to start a new team with Enevoldsen, who had just gotten back into shape, and only let him change for a high transfer fee . As a result, Enevoldsen started the new season with AaB before moving to the Dutch Eredivisie at FC Groningen . Groningen had already expressed interest in signing Enevoldsen for a long time, but was only able to raise a high transfer fee through the transfer of Marcus Berg to Hamburger SV .

FC Groningen

In Groningen he was able to integrate himself into the team straight away and was given a regular place in the right midfield. On December 13, 2009 in the away game against Sparta Rotterdam he caused a sensation for the first time with a flawless hat trick. By the end of the season, the Groningen in the middle of the league table in eighth place finished, he was promoted by continued strong performance as one of the discoveries of the Eredivisie and coach Morten Olsen in the preliminary squad of Denmark for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa been nominated .

KV Mechelen

After the 2011/2012 season, Enevoldsen moved to KV Mechelen .

National team

From his debut on September 7, 2004 for the Danish U-18 national team, he was used in his country's youth team.

With the U-20 national team, he took part in the Northern Irish Milk Cup in 2006 , but failed in the preliminary round against Turkey, the USA and the host country.

From 2007 to 2008 he ran a total of thirteen times for the Danish U-21 national team . Among other things, he completed seven games in the qualification for the U-21 European Football Championship in 2009 , but the team failed.

Even as a Groningen player he celebrated on 14 October 2009 at the qualifying match for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in the 0: 1 away defeat against Hungary his debut in the senior team . In the 46th minute he left the game for Søren Larsen . In 2009, two more friendlies followed, before he was surprisingly nominated as an alternative to the right to Dennis Rommedahl , who was also involved in the Netherlands , in the preliminary squad for the 2010 World Cup .

Others

His father Peter was also a professional footballer and was under contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach and LASK Linz in the 1980s . He is currently the assistant coach of the first-class women's football team Fortuna Hjørring . His younger brother Simon (* 1991) also tries his hand at football, but has so far not made it beyond youth or lower-class amateur football. The young goalkeeper also comes from the youth division of Aalborg BK .
