Thomas Kastura (born September 14, 1966 in Bamberg ) is a German-speaking author. He writes detective novels , books for young people and radio texts and works for Bayerischer Rundfunk ( Bayern 2 ).

biography

From 1986 to 1993 Thomas Kastura studied German and history at the University of Würzburg and the University of Bamberg . From 1991 to 1997 he published the student literary magazine "RezenSöhnchen" . During this time the first poems and experimental short prose were written. In 1993 he graduated with a degree in German with distinction. He then worked as a university lecturer and freelance cultural journalist, mainly for the Bavarian radio; also for Die Zeit , Rheinischer Merkur , Rheinische Post , the magazine mare and the Franconian Tag . He has been writing books since 1998, first as a non-fiction author ( Flucht ins Eis , 2000) and editor ( Unter dem Rohrstock , 2000; Dandys , 2001), later as a novelist and author of short stories and short stories. He is married and has two daughters.

reception

With the stories Jan Mayen (in: Eiszeit. 25 authors tremble before the cold, 2000) and Alles Glück (in: Sonnige Zeiten, 2002) he turned to prose. He also wrote the book for the film Epstein's Night (2002). The Last Lie (2002) is his first novel, a road novel set in Italy and followed by Der Rote Punkt (2004). In the spring of 2006, the crime story Eine Leiche im Gärkeller and the youth novel Waiting for Life appeared . With Please Identify! he presented another youth thriller in 2014. It's about a young woman's search for her stolen internet identity, her escape from cyberbullying and the power of social media.

His detective novel The Fourth Murderer , published in 2006, was number 1 on the KrimiWelt best list and was translated into French under the title Le meurtrier de l'avent . The second case with Inspector Raupach, Das dunkle Erbe, was published in 2008, the third volume The Secret Child was published in 2010. In the crime series Drei Morde zu few (2012), Thomas Kastura returned a little to his Franconian roots. In it and in the subsequent volumes Five Corpses Too Many (2015) and Seven Dead Are Not Enough (2017) he cultivates his predilection for style and genre parody. In 2015 Dark House was also released, a thriller set in southern England, which is both an exciting piece of social criticism and homage to Agatha Christie .

In 2018, the novel Death Stream was published under the pseudonym Gordon Tyrie, a Scottish thriller set on the Hebridean island of Jura , crime book tip in April on 3sat .

For Bayerischer Rundfunk (B 2 Kultur), Thomas Kastura writes glosses, essays and reviews as well as the weekly literary puzzle with the taxi driver Solomon Buk (since 2004, broadcast Diwan ).

In 2007 Thomas Kastura was the town clerk in Rottweil . He is chairman of the Upper Franconia regional group in the Association of German Writers (VS) and an advisory board member in the state board of VS Bavaria. He is also a member of the PEN Center Germany .
