Tobias Abstreiter (born July 6, 1970 in Landshut ) is a German ice hockey coach , manager and former player who played in the German ice hockey league with the Straubing Tigers , among others . He is currently the coach of the German U20 national team .

Career

His career began in 1986 at EV Landshut in the 1st Bundesliga . For the 1993/94 season he moved to EC Hedos Munich and was German champion with this in the same year . The next season he first spent with the Munich Mad Dogs , but then switched to the Kölner Haien during the season and became German champions again with them.

1997/98 he spent a league season at TSV Erding . In the summer of 1998, Abstreiter signed a contract with the Kassel Huskies . Here he became the leading player and captain of the team. After a changeable 2005/06 season , which ended with the relegation of the Huskies to the 2nd Bundesliga , Abstreiter moved to the newly promoted Straubing Tigers . Back in his Bavarian homeland, he signed a contract until 2008.

His younger brother Peter Abstreiter also stormed for the Tigers in the 2006/07 season .

After the end of his playing career, Tobias Abstreiter became sports manager at ERC Ingolstadt in 2008 , before moving to Landshut Cannibals for the 2009/10 season, where he held the position of head coach until 2011. After a year off, during which he acted as an expert on the Servus Hockey Night , he returned to active ice hockey at the beginning of the 2014/2015 DEL season and assisted Christof Kreutzer and, from the 2017/18 season, Mike Pellegrims as assistant coach at the Düsseldorfer EG . After Pellegrim's dismissal at the end of January 2018, Abstreiter took over the post of head coach until the end of the season. From the 2018/19 season, Abstreiter supported the new DEG coach Harold Kreis again in his role as assistant coach. At the end of the 2018/19 season, Abstreiter left DEG and took on the role of coach of the U20 national team at DEB.

International

For the German national team he took part in the world championships in 1994 , 2000 , 2001 , 2002 , 2003 and 2004 . He was also nominated for the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City . There he reached eighth place with the German team. In total, Abstreiter completed 48 international A matches, in which he was able to achieve 21 points scorer.
