The 2020 U.S. Athletics Olympic Trials are scheduled to take place June 19-28, 2020 at Hayward Field in Eugene , Oregon . They are organized by the USA Track & Field athletics association and are also the national championships.
Originally, the competitions were to take place at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut , California . For this, the stadium should be converted for several million US dollars. However, due to complaints from the neighborhood, the work could not begin. The association then decided to outsource the event to another location. At the beginning of August 2018, Eugene was awarded the contract to hold the competitions.
Qualification for the Olympic Games
The title fights serve to qualify for the US team at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo . For this purpose, an athlete must meet the qualification standard and, if there are three Olympic places to be awarded in the final classification of the respective discipline, belong to the three best athletes with a fulfilled qualification standard.
Outsourced competitions
Some Olympic Trials competitions will be held at a different time and place. The 50 km street walking was held in Santee , California on January 25, 2020 . The marathons on February 29, 2020 in Atlanta .
