history

The place was first mentioned in the Würzburger Lehenbuch from 1303 as "Niderkoeste". Heinrich von Liebenau was a fiefdom holder at this time . Margravial fiefs (three Sölden , a half-yard, tithe claims ) were first mentioned in the middle of the 15th century. Later there is talk of five margrave courts. There were also two farms, a sheep farm and ponds, which were subordinate to the Lords of Stiebar . In 1711 there were territorial disputes between Brandenburg-Bayreuth and the bishopric of Bamberg , with Unteröst being temporarily occupied by Brandenburg-Bayreuth troops. Later the place came to the gentlemen of Schönborn .

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 12 properties (5 estates, 3 estates, 1 Sölde , 1 house, sheep farm) and a community shepherd's house. The high court , the village and community rulership as well as the land rulership over all properties exercised the Schönborn rule of Pommersfelden .

As part of the community edict, Unterköst was assigned to the Steppach tax district, formed in 1808 . In the same year the rural community Steppach was formed, to which the place belonged. In the voluntary jurisdiction and local police, the entire place was subordinate to the Pommersfelden Patrimonial Court (until 1848).

In the course of the regional reform in Bavaria , Unterköst was incorporated into Pommersfelden on May 1, 1978.
